The broken heart disease - about cardiomyopathy
stress-induced cardiomyopathy or else: Broken heart syndrome.
...Is the term for a very rare but very real and deathly condition that basically occurs after one has had a particularly bad breakup, accident or experienced the loss of a loved one.Â
Mainly, it’s about intense emotional stress.
Upon hearing about it for the first time it raised some questions.
Is it like a heart attack that just happens when the body is just too stressed?
Why the heart? Obviously stress affects the heart but this condition just sounds too fitting.
Dying from a broken heart. Literally.
Is our brain so used to the connection of love to the heart that it tells the organ to shut down or what exactly don’t I understand?
Apparently, a lot.
This condition causes the body to release a surge of stress hormones that stun the left ventricle, one of the four chambers in our hearts, making it impossible for blood to get pumped to the rest of the body.
Okay. But how does that happen? Even cardiologists haven’t quite figured that one out, which makes me feel less dumb.
People who suffer from severe traumatic or emotional experiences often think that they’re having a heart attack. They’d have chest pain, sweat or shortness of breath. Palpitations, nausea and vomiting also are not uncommon.
So crying, screaming, throwing up rn.Â
But! Patients can be medically treated. Most of the time, their hearts go back to normal after a few weeks.
Normal, i say? Well whatever is normal when you just almost died because you loved someone huh.
And i am well aware that this is serious, people die, people have died. But I just can’t help myself to think that it is just the perfect irony.
The organ you loved with will be the reason you died.
The broken heart disease, ladies and gentlemen.
