okay first of all, I love the title right above this ask box (I hope you get what I'm talking about, and I don't seem like a *total* noob or anything...) haha, anyways, what advice would you offer to someone thinking of applying to cssa for creative writing? thanks a bunch(:
Hitchhiker's Guide references ftw! :D
Advice, advice... as far as your application goes, be totally genuine. The people reading your application are the people who will be teaching you if you get accepted. Don't try to suck up to them; they've read enough of these apps to know when a person is being insincere. Just be yourself, and don't stress yourself out too much. They're not looking for the best writing ever omg, they're looking for potential. They're looking for students that are good, but could be better.
Also, try to be original. I think I remember one of our teachers saying that he got so tired of reading the same type of stories over and over again, especially for the Creative Non-fiction application section. So, reach far into your brain and try to come up with something interesting. I'm not saying you have to shock the teachers, but thinking outside of the box isn't a bad idea.
Don't stress about the application, either. At the end of CSSSA, the teachers like to read a part of your application out loud. Everybody cringes. You will learn so much that you won't even be able to recognize your writing by the end of a month. So even if you're thinking, "Wow, this really sucks, I can't send this in," I wouldn't freak out too much. Everyone's thinking that. Do your best, of course, but understand that it is definitely not, nor is it supposed to be, perfect.
This is a given, but don't ask for help from any teachers or parents or anything. Definitely write the entire thing by yourself, or else you might get accepted and not be able to write up to standard when you get to CSSSA.
Um, hopefully that answered your question? If you have more questions/I didn't elaborate enough/you want to know what day-to-day life is like at CSSSA, feel free to shoot me another ask. :)
