I tuck Lynsie beneath me. Everything I’ve ever wanted is right here. It’s a lot to take in when we’ve both been through so much. “I love you,” I whisper, pressing my nose to her forehead. “I love you more than I’ve ever loved anyone or anything in my entire life. You own me, Lynsie. I never even had a choice.” “I don’t think I did, either,” she says as overwhelming emotion takes over. A single tear trails down her face. Broken Wings (10th Anniversary Edition) by Erika Ashby is releasing March 9th!

They think I’ll break, but I’m already broken. Some pieces of me are more shattered than others. So much so, that at times, I think once I’m able to pull the pieces back together, I’m going to look like a starry night sky. I’ll either be brightly lit, or barely flickering as darkness attempts to consume me.

I know when it’s all said and done, the brightness that I allow to shine will be my choice, but that all depends on what I want out of life, and if I want to live my life to the fullest one day, knowing what can be taken away. I’ll have to figure out if the gain of fully living is worth the inevitable loss we all face. Deep down I know the answer, but right now I’ll settle for the partial numbness I keep on hand.
