when i was on my “cicada trip” in illinois, i found a lot of cicadas that died while molting. after 17 years underground, dying during their big transition. i found it very sad but also kind of beautifully cool? i had to draw it!

when these types of cicadas are molting, they’re white as their exoskeleton hasn’t hardened yet. their exoskeleton becomes black as it hardens

cicada doodles from my trip to the states to see both broods!!! will probably do more cicada art in the coming days.

also tried to draw like a somewhat anthro chibi cicada?? i think he’s cute!! i wanna experiment w that more
