berna & connor tradition of deciding the outcome of a coyotes match via rock paper scissors
[coynecaptures]
There's this aspect of Bernas character work to me that's really interesting to me in the unique way it plays out in the coyotes story as a whole. Hes selfish in a way that makes it very clear he doesn't know what to do with himself on his own. He's selfish in a way where its Very Clear he was the first coyote indoctrinated by Rose and how they used to be a much more selfish faction as a whole. They cheated to win and he did bloody violence in his dad's name and thats how they roll. This also affects the breakup in a super fascinating way compared to Damiens righteous frustration and Connors denial. The first domino to fall is them losing the tag belts due to Christian interfering in the match and yelling in Bernas face. Despite this being really obvious to everyone else what happened, Berna still blames himself uniquely at fault. He's selfish in his self loathing, in the way he can not see Rose as the one Making him do things. When Rose hurts Damien its the first time he says anything or stands up to his father through the whole story and it is almost... not childish, but it is desperate in how he presents it. Berna is wild and violent and unaffected emotionally and in this promo hes on the mic voice breaking saying you were supposed to care about us. He never has spoken up like this, not even when Christian was on comms watching Gunner humiliate him and doing nothing. Damien being hurt is too far, because he's small and weak and his baby brother. The follow up to this breakdown is the unsanctioned match he has with Rose and it parallels very interestingly to what Connor said about Damien on commentary, they're trying to prove themselves to their dad. That they have the right to speak up for themselves and this is how they show that. Of course Damien could never win that match, they all knew that. But Berna could win. He has to win. It's what he Has Always Done. And when Berna loses this match to Rose in the exact style of dog eat dog violence he was supposed to be the perfect solider in, thats when Berna goes back to silently following Rose around. Berna stands up for himself and fails and this is a uniquely evil failure for him that he sees as Rose being correct. He can't beat him in a match, Rose was right. Why are they fighting when Rose is always right? Berna is selfish in his belief that he is the cornerstone of truth the coyotes the way Rose probably told him when he was the first invited in, and he uses that against his brothers wearing his dad's gear with Roses name on the legs instead of his own coyotes attire to their match against each other. He can do something right this time. He has to
