I’m pleasantly surprised at how much work you’ve done for the Álfablót post. It’s a delightful read and yes, I AM a nerd for reading it all the way through not once but twice! Thank you for taking the time to share your observations!
Thank you so much and for taking the time to read through it twice! It means a lot to hear it resonated with a fellow nerd. Once you start writing on bigger posts like this it's hard to stop because there's always more, despite being a very niche subject. I thought about making the stratigraphy angle more nuanced. Here's another small note:
Despite their stratified dwellings, the álfar, ancestors, and landvættir affect us in ways more rhizomatic (Deleuze, G & Guattari, F "Mille Plateaux" 1980), not just as our own roots but how they actually move around in our messy lives in much the same way as the tangling lateral of mycelium webs rather than a top-down linear contract of slow vertigo in earthly stratification.
