Dan giving the Devil a little smack
You should definitely write about Dan instead of Marcus
I was gonna be silly and throw some shade like "the Lucifer writers should definitely write about Dan instead of Marcus" but I'm holding out hope everything will work out for season 3But yeah, perhaps I will! I mean I can picture it now, both of them learning a bit more about each other, living in forced proximity, having those weird habits accidentally carry over after the case is finished."Bye, sweetie," Lucifer says, half teasing, half automatic.Dan hardly even notices, so used to Lucifer's pet names after enduring nearly a week of them. He gives Lucifer's arm an absent squeeze, goes up to press a quick peck to his cheek. "Bye, Luce."Then he seems to realize what's he's done and stares at Lucifer in surprise, a mirrored expression on the Devil's face. Dan flushes and fumbles back a few steps. "Sorry, I didn't mean - I just -" Dan stumbles over his words. "I'm - I'm gonna.. go now.""Right," Lucifer says, blinking.Dan turns and quickly makes a hasty exit.XD
i would like to protest your ficlet. you didn't add chloe slapping a hand over her mouth so she wouldn't laugh.
It's implied XD but here, let's add a part 2Chloe watches from the break room door, finding the strange closeness Dan and Lucifer had acquired rather endearing as they hover awkwardly near each other. Lucifer says something teasingly and Dan, without thinking, kisses his cheek in farewell. Chloe smacks a hand over her mouth to smother the laugh bubbling up in her chest. They stare at each other in shock and confusion. Dan escapes with a few sentence fragments and most of his dignity. Chloe struggles not to break down into guffaws. Some noise must escape because Lucifer starts to turn, so Chloe quickly hides back in the break room, sliding down to sit on the floor and collapse into giggles.

getting on some bro danifer with this one
37. “You look like you need a hug”
Dan isn’t sure he’s ever seen Lucifer anything other than extremely annoying or worried for Chloe and this expression is neither of these things. He’s leaning against Chloe’s deck, head slightly bowed.
He looks lost.
Dan silently curses and then, knowing it will probably be in vain, heads over to talk to Lucifer.
“You look like you need a hug.” he starts and then winces.
Lucifer glances over, startled, then smiles grimly. “Thank you, Daniel. I appreciate the offer, but I’ll pass.”
And shit, if Lucifer isn’t calling him a douche or an idiot, let alone using his actual name, things must be…really bad. “Is it…Chloe and the Lieutenant?” Dan asks. It had bothered him, after all. Somehow even more so than the thought of her and Lucifer.
Lucifer looks at him, studies him with those unfathomably dark eyes. There is age beyond measure in Lucifer’s gaze and it makes Dan’s skin crawl.
“It is many things.” Lucifer replies after a long moment.
Dan feels like he’s accidentally dived into the deep end of the pool when he only wanted the shallow. Like he’s missed a step only to realize there’s nothing but darkness below him.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asks hesitantly.
Lucifer makes a bleak sort of huffing noise. “You couldn’t possibly understand.” and it’s said with such certainty that Dan believes him.
“Maybe not, but that doesn’t mean I can’t listen.” Dan reasons.
Lucifer seems mutedly surprised by the attempt, like Dan is a particularly clever dog who has done a new trick. “No.” Lucifer decides. “But you have my gratitude.” Lucifer stands. He actually reaches out to Dan, gripping in between his neck and his shoulder and giving it a friendly squeeze. “Thank you.”
“Well. If you change your mind, give me a call, alright? We can just hang out if you’d be more comfortable, we don’t have to do the whole exchanging of feelings if you don’t want.” Dan says a bit awkward, but sincere.
Lucifer smiles, it’s small, and merely a flicker, but it happened and Dan feels inordinately proud of putting it there. “I’ll keep that in mind.” he says. “Goodbye, Dan.”
“Yeah, see ya around.” Dan replies and watches Lucifer exit the precinct, worry creasing his brow. Maybe he should call Maze or Amenadiel. They might know what is going on with him.
God, when did he start to care so much about Lucifer? Dan shakes his head at himself, but pulls his phone out and starts dialing anyway.
