Final Relflection

The last groups that presented had a common theme of solving the waste issue. None of the groups talked about preventing waste in the first place with using less packaging or something like that. I think we all learned a lot from this project and will be able to implement the design process into our other classes, whether they are design classes or not. The whole theme of this class has been to challenge yourself to think in a different way and think outside of the box. I am glad I decided to take this class and would recommend it to a friend. My only problem was that we did not make anything in the class. I wish that we would have had the change to make something that would represent our projects, and make the class a little bit more hands on.

Reflection

My group presented our project on Wednesday. Looking back it is interesting to see how far our group has come. We did not know what project three was going to entail, or what prompt we would have. I think that  our group made the best use out of our resources and pooled all of our ideas together for a really good project. This was cool to have a group critique us right away and get instant feedback, unlike most classes where you just get a grade a week later. I think that I can speak for my whole group when I say that we have learned a lot about the creative design process as the class draws to a close. After this class I think that we can take what we learned with us to question things and use the creative process to better ourselves.

Reflection 4/3

I really enjoyed listening to the other group presentations, and seeing how the groups approached the project differently. With a the guidelines that we were given there were many possible directions groups could go with it. I think it was really impressive that a group even made a app to make their design project real. I feel that our project was presented well and we backed up all of our points. We had a lot of similarities and differences from other groups. Project 2 was a lot better because we were able to utilize the best ideas from our whole team.

Reflection 5

The speakers were very nice people and it was nice that they showed us a potential career path in the design community. They emphasized that they may start a problem one way and have to go back and completely re-due it. Sometimes the most simple solution is not the best one. I personally could not think of any other way to make a map outside of the traditional way, or thought it was possible. When our class collaborated they proved me wrong and had different and interesting ways of creating maps. It was cool that we got to do a more hands on activity, and they got us involved.

Reflection 4

It was interesting to see everyone’s presentations. The instructions for the assignment were sort of vague, so it was cool to see how people interrupted it differently. There were a lot of common problems that people proposed that I did not even think of, even though it relates to my everyday life. These presentations were a perfect example of how we need many different minds to look at a problem in different ways to find the best solution. I am looking forward to seeing what challenges project number 2 will have.

Reflection 3

Being a very structured person this assignment has not been easy for me. It is vague and leaves room for you to get creative, and not just settling on the first idea that comes to mind. I have been thinking and rethinking my idea to solve a common problem at home. I have now identified the perfect problem, but have not yet come up with a solution. That is where leaving room for other people comes into play. My identified needs can now be thought about in different ways.

Reflection 2

This class has really been challenging my creativity, and I am still not really sure what to think about it. It is so different in the sense that there really are no right or wrong answers, which sometimes makes it more difficult. My group really came together and pooled all of our ideas together. We started by establishing a need. Identifying a problem that could simplify our at home life. Everyone had really good ideas that led into others ones. There really is not a wrong answer, which allows you to really stretch your imagination and get creative. Having a group like ours is really helpful, because not everyone thinks the same way, and you can run an idea past someone.

Mitch Brown

Hey fellow designers, my name is Mitch and I am a Sophomore from Minneapolis and attended Burnsville High School. I am a parks and recreation major, and I would love to work for the government as a parks director or something (yes like Amy Poehler on Parks and Rec). I enjoy the finer things in like such as playing intramural sports, working out, traveling, skateboarding, and trying to take cool pictures so my friends on instagram think I actually do things with my life. When I’m not hating my life at school I enjoy working and volunteering with kids. Other than getting a good grade in this class, I hope that I am able to implement my leanings into the real world.
