Saturday Lunch Time Live, With Bench Self Made Gallery - 9th March - THE BROWN BROGUES.
You may be familiar with Em Music Matters and Hive Radio MCR being regular visitors to Bench Self Made Gallery's Wednesday Lunch Time Live sessions last year. Well Lunch Time Live is BACK! This year, once a month on Saturday afternoons. And Hive Radio MCR are very excited about it...
Ever find yourself bored on a Saturday afternoon? Nothing better to do than nurse a hangover, and forget about Friday nights embarrassing antics? Or lost for a way to kill time before it's acceptable to hit the pub on a Saturday afty? Love a spot of live music and fancy a free gig? (And even a free beer! WAHAY!) Fear not, brave the hangover, and ditch the clock watching, once a month your Saturday's are about to take a drastic turn for the better...
Catch the likes of bands such as; The Brown Brogues at Bench’s Lunch Time Live in The Self Made Gallery, Northern Quarter, 1pm each month. Setting a creative mark on Manchester City, Self Made Gallery have planned a series of live acts on a Saturday afternoon, commencing in the open, pristine and white innovative gallery, even presenting fresh and stirring works available to peer over. Oh, and has it been mentioned that this lovely afternoon lunch of live music is absolutely free?! This week Hive Radio Members caught The Brown Brogues in action and even had a quick chat with them…
The Brown Brogues- Ben & Mark in action, Ben treated us to his bongo drums for their acoustic set.
This afternoon Brown Brogues a garage-rock-duo from Wigan, (note their favourite pies are meat & potato) brace the gallery with an exceptional acoustic set. A little different to their usual electric live sound the boys mutually felt today's gig went well but that it was 'weird' and 'very strange' armed with their bongo drums as ' a little treat for everyone 'ere at Bench.' The two come together as just a pair 'through the unreliability of about five other people,' Ben Mather (drummer,) and Mark Vernon whom sarcastically jokes 'thing is we don't get along with anyone else,' (guitar).
A peculiar setting for the pair no doubt but the pair embrace the tranquil, cool gallery with their tantalizing tracks consisting of expressionistic and creative howls and hollerings. Laughter and smiles the pair present top tracks from debut album Born To Lose such as Any One But You, pure pop 'A fuzzy love song my Mum said, my Mum likes that one... and my Grandma!' exclaims Ben. The track has been nominated for Hive Radio MCR's Spotify playlist by Zach Roddis, time will tell if it makes the cut!
The boys up close.
The debut album is available from all good independent record stores, be sure to check out this band for yourself if you haven't yet, as Em Music Matters and Hive Radio MCR feel they are one's to watch!
Listen out for an interview with The Brown Brogues on HiveRadio’s The Indie Buzz 10-12 Wednesday 13/03/13 or catch it later on Hive's mix cloud.
