DARLING HOUSE Inspired by Jutaku Japanese houses, our nearly completed 3 storey 3 bedroom detached home affectionately known as Darling House occupies the site of a former double lockup garage in the heart of Victorian homes set within a conservation area in leafy Crouch End. The new house has 3 bedrooms situated in an excavated basement and manicured internal spaces providing 140m2 floor area complete with polished concrete floors throughout and beautiful glulam exposed timber beams forming the curvilinear roof. STONECHAT MEWS ROEHAMPTON LONDON Crawford Partnership were invited by the owners of the old warehouse, that stood at the end of an avenue of run down lockup garages, to come up with proposals for new housing on the backland, brownfield site. The 3 new houses occupy the footprint of the former warehouse and 3 existing walls were retained to minimise the impact of the construction on neighbours gardens. Extensive use of glazing maximises daylight and sunlight within each home, including a double height winter garden on the back of each house. Some lockups were removed to make a more open landscaped car park and those remains have been renovated in colours matching the new houses.
