(Bruce's) Dick's Diary - This is the cutest thing ever (And Dick calls Damian 'the kid' like Bruce used to call him 'the boy')

Okay, so, um...Captain's Log, stardate, like twelve...or something. I'm not really sure how to start this. I mean, this whole thing was Alfred's idea. Yeah, I've kept journals in the past, but not as Batman. So it's a little weird for me right now. Everything 'Batman' does carries weight with it. With Nightwing, it didn't matter. I just went about my daily business, took down the bad guys when I had to, and even found time for a social life. Well, sort of. But Batman...I mean this is like writing a history book, or adding an extra few scenes to Citizen Kane. Batman's legend.

Anyway, I guess I'll just start and see where it goes.

Damian's still a challenge. After that whole mess at Police Headquarters, he just took off on his own. Got himself kidnapped by a new major leaguer who goes by the name of Professor Pyg. Pyg's crazy, sure, but organised. Pyg calls himself an artist and uses torture, drugs and bizarre doll masks to lead an army of mindless followers. Used to be a low-rent 'extreme' circus boss names Lazlo Valentin who decided to fund his whack-job experiments by selling next-generation narcotics.

When I finally catch up to Pyg, I find him standing over Damian at the circus grounds, a flaming torch in his hands. He's done playing with the kid and is ready to end it. Man's standing there with his gut hanging out with the ridiculous Hampton from 'Tiny Toons' mask on his face. So I kind of enjoy it when I drive the new four wheeler by and give him an old-fashioned clothesline.

Then he's on the ground, crawling towards the circus tent and saying he hasn't done anything wrong. After he's been knocked out, a half-dozen 'Dollotrons', all with permanent masks attached to their faces, come rushing at Damian and he. We take them out fast, but there's no choice but to use force. The whole mess is bloody and disturbing, but we get it done, and Gordon and his men are there before we know it.

You know what's weird? When I look at Damian I can see Bruce a little. Maybe that's why I invited him to be my Robin. Or maybe I'm still trying to impress Batman, even though he's not here anymore. Do him a favour by sorting out his kid.

Batman. Just caught that. Still hasn't sunk in that that's me now. Wonder how long that'll take. Okay, so I guess that's it, then. This is me, Batman, signing off.

Man, I've really gotta get a hang of this journal thing.

Bruce's Diary - Gordon doesn't approve of The Boy (Oh, and they catch Killer Moth or something)

His face changes when he sees Robin moving in the shadows behind the Bat-signal. He thought I was alone tonight, but when he sees the bot, his eyes tighten a bit and he looks away. He's trying his best to be open-minded about the situation but still doesn't understand. To him, I'm putting a child in harm's way every night. We've argued about it enough times. But Jim Gordon has never gone through what we've gone through. He doesn't know the pain that the boy and I have experienced. For Dick, the wound's still fresh. He needs to be Robin even more than I need to be the Batman. When it comes right down to it, Gordon's a family man, and despite Robin saving his life in that incident last week with Mr. Freeze, he still doubts the boy's capabilities.

“Commissioner,” I say. Robin stays in the shadows by the rooftop's edge.

“Got your message,” he says. “You have something for me?”

I look over at Robin and he steps out into the light, dragging Killer Moth with him. Walker's bound in Robin's line, and not happy about it. But still, neither Walker nor the boy speak.

“Danny Walker,” I say, “A.K.A Cameron Van Cleer, Lazlo Furlenbach, and the Killer Moth.”

“Quite a resume you got there, Walker.” Gordon says and turns to the officer behind him by the rooftop exit. “Grab Kestman and then get this guy downstairs.”

“Yes, sir.” the cop says, as he heads inside the precinct.

“And don't forget his rights.” Gordon calls after him. He turns back to us. “Lord knows we've lost enough of these to technicalities already. Got plenty on my plate now, the way it is.”

I don't say anything. Other than a faint mumble from Walker, neither does anyone else.

“Got my brother's daughter to look after now, along with everything else.” he says to himself more than to me. “But she's a good kid, Barbara.” he says. Then he looks up to me, and cocks his head. “You and I, we're going to have a talk soon...about family.”

Gordon looks over at the Killer Moth, unmasked in his ridiculous costume. Robin takes a step back into the shadows. Jim's going to take more convincing than I originally thought. But he'll come around. His body language tells me he wants to at least. “Later,” Jim says. “When we have more...”

He looks back to where I was standing and realises I'm no longer there. Then he looks back to the Moth and sees that Robin's gone too.

Gordon grunts, and walks toward the Moth and the signal. “Stupid kid,” says Walker, as he spits to the side.

Jim Gordon just shakes his head and lights his pipe.
