Lance and Allura are related and both from Altea, a planet that has been mostly myths and legends that no one has been able to find
Hunk would play the role of Mole except he’s more hygienic and everyone loves Hunk bc he’s good and pure but he’s spent a lot of time researching different planets and considers himself something of an expert, but he also helps out with mechanics
Pidge fits in really well as Audrey sorry I don’t make the rules like??? kickass girls????? yes pls thank you
Pidge’s dad and older brother along with the rest of the team had gone on an expedition years ago and, while they didn’t find Altea, exactly, they uncovered new information that would later lead them to Altea
Shiro is Sweet this is just a fact™ and he was really close to the Holt family when they all went on the expedition together so when he got into an accident near the end of the trip they helped build him a robotic arm
he feels really protective of Pidge and treats them like family
okay so hear me out I know Coran is Altean and I don’t really want to mess with this but Cookie makes me think of Coran?? so maybe Coran descends from an Altean bloodline but those Altean relatives are long dead and no one has even the faintest idea when they arrived on Earth
(some people speculate that they were the only survivors of Altea after the war that occured there hundreds of years ago but, again, no one has proof)
regardless Coran has dedicated his life to finding out all he can about his homeworld (and also cooking. he’s not very good at it but everyone appreciates it anyway)
I’m not sure how well it fits in but Rolo is Vinny (unintentionally fucks shit up) and Nyma is Packard (done with everyone’s shit™)
Rourke and Helga are Zarkon and Haggar, respectively
Keith is Milo there is no avoiding this Keith is a conspiracy theorist this is just how it is he’s obsessed with Altea. Keith’s mom was part of the original mission to search for Altea and she would tell Keith bedtime stories about it but a few months after she returned home she got sick and died when Keith was 15.
lol everyone is super mad when Keith,,,,,,, this 19-year-old asshole in flight school finds out that they’ve been looking for Altea in the wrong place the planet that they thought was Altea wasn’t Altea at all
Iverson gets pissed but decides to help fund a new mission to find the planet bc Keith’s mom was a star student probably and everyone loved her and he feels like he owes it to her
so ooh now plot stuff
so they go out on this pretty moderately sized spaceship to the coordinates that Keith gave them, and though half of the crew has already been on the first mission, they tease Keith and call him the Expert except most of them are pretty skeptical about it
((the reason why no one was able to find Altea was because a giant robotic space lion (thank u @brucewcyne) that’s been blocking off every frequency it comes in contact with))
Altea is really fucking weird like it’s got 5 moons and 1 sun and the sky is always some shade of purple and it’s a bad idea to sleep on the grass bc it’ll get offended and probably sting you and it rains rocks
they find a cave to sleep in for the night but it’s covered in markings everywhere and Keith swears he’s seen them before so he investigates and touches one of the markings and the next thing you know they’ve all lighting up and they’ve fallen through the ground
they all get knocked out and Lance ends up finding Keith, who’s beat up pretty bad, so Lance heals him with his crystal and Keith is just kind of like???? wtf is happening??? but then he starts to hear the voices of the others and Lance books it the fuck outta there
Keith chases after him and makes his way through the rubble and out of the cave and finds Altea. Allura scares the fuck out of them when she and a group of warriors land behind them but Keith speaks to her in Altean and that’s probably when Lance shows up and starts joking around
Allura is very reluctant but she brings them in to see her father. King Alfor is beyond pissed and wants them out asap. Zarkon tries to reason with him that they’re low on resources and have to recoup and wait for others to find them so Alfor gives them a three weeks
everyone really likes Altea?? for the most part everyone is really nice to these newcomers and treat them fairly
Lance keeps bugging Keith because he’s curious like?? how does this outsider know his language??? and Keith brings out the Book and then starts translating things left and right and Lance is super excited bc no one has been able to read the language in years
everything is fine and dandy except Zarkon and Haggar are being pretty sketchy and convinced there’s some treasure somewhere that they can make bank off of
Keith and Lance go out for a swim because there’s some murals that Lance wants Keith to translate and Keith finds out that the crystals everyone wears are essentially Altea’s lifesource and is the reason why everyone is still alive and the empire is still thriving
they come back up and everyone from the crew are waiting for them
Lance is not happy
Zarkon and Haggar take Keith and Lance hostage and bring them back to King Alfor, demanding for the treasure, and Alfor is mad but Keith can see he’s scared too
Zarkon figures out that a portion of the throne room sinks into an underground cave using clues based off the markings on Alfor’s body
the most iconic scene, the best part of the whole movie,,,,, Lance gets chosen by the crystal and merges into one with Altea’s lifesource
he’s all glowy and magical and Keith thinks he’s beautiful but also terrifying, because that’s Lance but not really
Zarkon tries to use this power for his own self gain but everyone from the gang™ decides that’s a bunch of bullshit so they all come up with this plan to get Lance back
with their lifesource being taken from them the Alteans are kind of freaking out but these people have guns and they don’t know how to fight back
Alfor is the first to go
Shiro tries to help him but it’s no use. Alfor talks to Keith and admits that the whole time he’d been worried that Allura would be the one chosen by the crystal bc it had chosen their mother years ago to keep everyone alive
((Alfor should have known better. Allura had always been more like him and Lance had been his mother’s son through and through))
so they fight Zarkon for Lance and win, except there’s this huge fucking volcano that’s been laying dormant and they’ve been shooting things and machines are exploding left and right, so the volcano blows
they let Lance loose and he saves Altea and unintentionally makes it into a better, more beautiful place
the lifesource lets Lance go and Lance sinks slowly back to the ground and Keith cradles him in his arms and Lance blinks and he’s all “did I miss something?” but then starts crying happy tears and hugs Keith :’)
everyone is very skeptical about the knowledge of Altea though and they’re very hesitant to let Earth know about it’s existence so Pidge and Hunk scrap for parts and help to repair one of the escape pods they had made it in on
Coran is too in love with the people to leave. Shiro wants to spread his knowledge of healing (and he may or may not have a thing for Allura) so the rest of the gang figure out a way to make a communication device so they can keep in contact with Altea in secret
and Keith??? he takes one look at Lance and he knows it’s been such a short time but they’ve been through a lot of shit together, haven’t they? he can’t leave now, can he?? he has so much more to learn, so much more to teach them about their own language—
