Brute Heart's Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Brute Heart recorded this album as film score for the 1920 film Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Spooky, moody, subtle - they get the job done. As might be expected for a film score, there aren't shining moments of musical genius. The album is a sequence of musical shades intended to subconsciously guide the listener's emotional state to match that of the film. Without watching the film, it's hard to assess how well they've accomplished their goal. However, as stand alone analog ambient music they do a fine job. It won't drive you wild, but if you want some quiet background music while you staff your shift at the coffeehouse it'll do. Fucking hipsters.
3/5 I can identify this as music.
