So Long
By Katie Stevens, Social Media Intern
I had planned on posting much sooner, but I did not anticipate how little free time I would have the week before graduation. I just wanted to say farewell, and thanks for reading if you have been. I’ve enjoyed being the social media intern, and I’ve enjoyed writing for the Bryan Tumblr. I hope all of you have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!!! Congratulations on being done with finals!!!
8 Things That Bryan Students Are Thankful For
By Katie Stevens, Social Media Intern
1. When you get that email that your 8AM has been canceled and you can go back to sleep.
2. The big, happy, (and dysfunctional) family atmosphere that is unique to Bryan.
3. Palmer classes.
4. When professors take their classes outside.
5. Thanksgiving break.
6. A place where we can openly worship our Creator.
7. Opportunities to travel the world in order to spread the Gospel.
8. When there are chicken nuggets in the cafeteria.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break y’all!
Dealing With Stress
By Katie Stevens, Social Media Intern
On Friday we had a chapel on anxiety and stress and how to deal with them. As someone who has extensive experience in this field (I’m a senior), I decided to get a little bit more detailed and practical with things that help me when I’m feeling overwhelmed and stressed out. Finals are coming up in a month or so, and I know if you have a pulse on this college campus, you deal with anxiety. These are some things that work for me, and I hope they can help you too.
Drink Enough Water: I know this is very “Tumblr” but I need to be reminded of this constantly. I forget that anything but Dr. Pepper exists, and that water does anything other than give me a momentary break from Dr. Pepper (I have a problem). Being dehydrated can result in symptoms other than just being thirsty, such as: being overly tired, headaches, dizziness, dry skin, and having general brain fog. None of which are helpful when you’re stressed.
Get Enough Sleep: This is the first semester I have started to realize that my general health is more important than my grades. I know, shocking. Starting homework a little bit earlier, getting it done in the morning, scheduling it in, or occasionally asking for that extension so that you can get the rest you need is not a bad thing or a sign of being a lazy student. Take care of yourself, kid.
Clean Your Room: I am someone who is very affected by her environment, and as a result, if my room is a mess, so is my mind. Taking a few minutes to clean up before going to bed or starting my homework is really helpful. Plus, it’s productive procrastination.
Plan Out Your Week: This is crucial for me. If I have everything I have to do that week on paper, especially in list form, then I feel far more on top of things than if I tried to wing it. I have a terrible memory and will forget that I have a doctor’s appointment or a test or that I have to wake up and do the things, which only makes me even more stressed out when I forget. Plus, checking something off a to-do list is just incredibly satisfying.
Make time for rest: Schedule in a couple of hours here and there to be able to read a book, take a nap, or watch Netflix. You won’t get anything done if you burn out halfway through the week.
I hope that some of these tips will help you in your day-to-day routine. By implementing the above five things, I am able to significantly reduce how stressed out I am, and I hope they help you out too! Have a great week, Lions!
