World Robot Olympiad Think Award

Setting up a robot and working through programming ideas as soon as school starts has paid off. Team leader Shawn Soohyung Lee, Y12 Halla East and two other classmates participated in the World Robot Olympiad in Bucheon on 20th and 21st August 2016. They were honoured with the “Think Award”, the silver prize for the demonstration of creative “Cigarette Butt Collection Systems” followed by an explanation about how people can develop intelligent data and utilize the knowledge out of daily routines. With the silver prize they just missed their ticket to New Delhi for the final round. However, the NLCS team learned a lot out of the competition and will take this experience to the next ones awaiting them.

Epic Épée

On Saturday 14th May, seven NLCS Jeju middle school boys travelled to the Korea National Sport University in Seoul to compete in the Seoul Fencing Association Club Fencing Competition. This was the first time the school has ever entered a fencing competition after starting the sport as a Bryant activity this year. The boys competed in the épée discipline and fought hard. Their efforts were rewarded with excellent results and we took away three medals: Tony Taehyun Son, Y8 Noro and Sangho Sim, Y8 Geomun were awarded bronze medals and Paul Hyunwook Im, Y8 Noro took silver. It was a very impressive performance for their first outing and we look forward to more fencing successes next year!

Dreams come true!

In our Community Service Bryant at Dream House care home in Daejung, NLCS Jeju students help out by providing care, company and entertainment for the elderly residents. They help to clean to facility, engage the residents in some craft activities and games and sing songs together with the residents. This Saturday, NLCS staff and students organised a special celebration for Parents' Day - they sang a special song for the grandmothers and grandfathers, pinned carnations on their breasts. 

Students and staff from NLCS get a great deal out of this activity and for the residents of the care home, out visit is the highlight of their week.

Well done to all students and staff involved in this fantastic activity!

Climbing Rocks!

It was a beautiful day here on Jeju on Saturday and students who are doing Rock Climbing as their Bryant activity experienced some real rock faces, as opposed to the climbing walls that they have been training on. All students did very well scaling the heights of these cliffs and abseiling down. A most enjoyable morning in the sun!

FOBISIA Golf Tournament

Seven NLCS Jeju students of the NLCS Jeju Golf Squad have just returned from the FOBISIA Golf Invitational 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The students: Seungjun Choi, Minseo Kim, Ji Hoon Moon, Dowon Kim and Minji Cho (all year 8); Jiyun Kang and Suin Kim (year 10) and Dohyun Ko (year 11) found it hard to adjust to the climate - 90% humidity and 30 degrees celsius! Nevertheless, they did really well lot of balls were struck and a lot of water was consumed. Worthy of mention is Jiyun Kang (Year 10, Mulchat) who completed his first ever round of competitive golf and Ji Hoon Moon (year 8, Geomun) who had the lowest score of the NLCS players on day one.

Jeju Olle

Olle Trails is always a popular Bryant activity and students enjoy the opportunity to explore some of the hiking trails around the South West of our island. Last week they walked around Songaksan, a simple volcano that juts out into the sea which has double craters and a parasitic volcano. All enjoyed spectacular views of Sanbangsan and the rugged coastline.
