"I'm sure it's more difficult for someone with a brain as smooth as yours, but can you pronounce my name, or are you only capable of monosyllabic responses?"
❛ what is it ? are you okay ? ❜
“ m-me ? i’m fine. ” the dark flyer slows cetus to a stop on the ground, tsking at the ( now decimated ) pile of stoneborn remains. “ that creation w-was hardly a ch-challenge. ” a well rehearsed twirl of the lance in their hand, and a sigh. “ tis such a shame- these things h-hardly hold a candle to r-risen. i had ex-expected more of a fight. ” a shake of the head. “ ah, well- c’est la vie. ”

“ f-forgive me, then. ” how in the seven hells does owain manage to put up with this prickly prince ? ( nohr really was no fun allowed, huh. ) “ sh-should i try something more your speed, then, milord ? ” andromeda’s sweet smile, contrasts against the sharp tone of their voice. “ w-would you prefer a kn-knock knock j-joke instead ? ”

The rain was heavy, but light rain was rare in Nohr; the abysmal weather had become a trait of these lands and a point of pride for the people that had settled there and lived under such conditions day to day. For as often as it rained, Xander never tired of watching the steady beads of water on the windows as they slid down on their journey to the ground. He could remember one of the first days he watched as rain rolled down the window; he had asked who was crying. His nails tapped the glass in a strangely soothing pattern, the gentle ring never even hesitating has his brother spoke up in the silence. His hand returned to his lap though he still watched out the window, crossing his legs with a thoughtful hum. Naturally, he draped his arm over the back to the chair he sat in and looked over his shoulder to see Leo, a faint smile on his lips as their eyes met,
❝ I’m sure there are, Leo, or there are other things to do as well. We could go to the archives together, if you’d like. I wouldn’t mind a book either. ❞

This is not quite right, silence usually becomes her but now… now it is bitter. Layered thick with a brittleness she cannot name, a pain embedded somewhere deep within the confines of a battle-worn soldier. This isn’t right.
She is still young, still carrying a pinkish hue in her cheeks, she should not be carrying bruised knees and clipped wings. She is still so young, so flush with promise. Now, she lies amongst the dead upon bloodsoaked earth.
Fingers curl into fists until skin is stretched like a canvas, too tight along the ridges of her knuckles, with no sign of unfurling until the war inside her ribs has subsided. When will that be? She does not know.
Arms extend, grasping the child and enveloping her in the warmth of her embrace. She cradles the young girl against her, swathing them within silken ivory tails.
“I’m… s-scared…” She whimpers under bated breath.
“Don’t be…” Shiori began, her tone notably soft and hushed. “The Great Mother shall welcome you with open arms. There will be no suffering, no pain. Just follow the light of the sun, there you will find Her.”
The youth listened intently, clinging to the woman’s words and comforted by the warmth she exuded before the light faded from her eyes and her body slackens. Shiori nudges closer, gaze ever weary but kind. Another moment passes and the Okitsune allows a sad sound to spill from her chest where tears could not.

Leo is struggling. Odin can tell. He’s been getting even less sleep than he already did, and most of the time he keeps so to himself it’s hard to get a word out of him. Odin knows he’s been through some awful things (he knows all too well, Odin’s own childhood being one bad event after the other), and he now carries a burden not many can bear. His cousin, Lucina, carried a similar burden, and Odin has seen her struggle, pretending to be strong and hiding anything that could be considered weak. He respects her immensely, but he just wishes he could help lift her troubles just a little.
The same goes for Leo. Over his time with the mage, he can say he’s grown fond of the boy. He’s only Leo’s retainer, but he respects him and through their time together he likes to think they’ve grown close. So he decided to remain in Nohr for a while after the war had finished. Out of worry for Leo, his duty as retainer and friend remaining hard in his head. How could he leave him in such a state, after all he’s been through? Odin isn’t sure Leo could take much more loss.
Odin finds Leo in the library, and when he approaches he places a gentle hand on Leo’s shoulder, announcing his presence (a much softer gesture than his usual loud, shouting entrances).
“ Milord-- this may not be my place, but when am I ever one to hold back words-- I worry for you. ”
