amaterasu is a part of the japanese myth cycle and also a major deity of the shinto religion. she is seen as the goddess of the sun, but also of the universe. the meaning of her whole name, amaterasu-ōmikami, is “the great august kami (god) who shines in the heaven”.

The moon offers a strange comfort. It is neither warm nor tainted, it simply is and the silence which heralds its lonesome path across the sky is illuminated by speckled, almost fickle, stars. When sunlight vanishes the moonlight takes its place as a pale mute reflection of what once was and will be, yet from this comfort comes a certain unease which ripples across her spine. A violet mist bleeds through the branches of the forest.

Her wintry coat bristles with trepidation as malformed creatures, Faceless, emerges from the woodlands sitting on the outskirts of their camp. Shiori releases a deep-seated howl, alerting her fellow comrades whilst drawing the encroachers attention solely upon her.

Niles knows it isn’t everyone, but Lord Leo doesn’t count in the masses of people he’s grouped together. His lord is a separate thing, isolated from Niles’ judgement on the virtue of being Leo and nothing else. He did shoot her a look for that. And then, a consideration. Why was she asking? There was surely nothing to be gained by her knowing, and his brow furrowed a bit more. Just looking generally distrustful of the woman he was sharing a watch with. 

“Sweets are fine. I enjoy sweet things, surprisingly enough. And, tea I suppose, but strong tea. A pleasant mix, if you will, but this is wartime.” 

Scarlet painted lips curl further as ivory coloured tails sway airily behind her, seemingly pleased to discover some common ground. “And what of Hoshidan delicacies?” The guardian would inquire with hopeful glints.

Lithe hands grips and lifts a small package wrapped in delicate Hoshidan silk from her satchel and is situated upon her lap.

“I happen to have some. Would you care to share them with me?”

“Eh, I’m sure nobody would mind if I just roughed you up a bit, they know how I am~” And his words have a self depreciating lilt, underneath the suggestiveness. Niles wasn’t expecting her to apologize however, and it threw him off from whatever he was going to say next. 

“Again, I have bad blood between everyone. You’re the rule, not the exception.” 

“If sparring is what you had in mind, I have no qualms. Perhaps, sometime after our watch has ended.” She diverts the conversation like an afterthought, seemingly unfazed by his inflamed affront. Her gaze momentarily shifts from her devious companion towards the dimly lit fire before them. From the tips of her slender digits a wisp of flame materializes before merging with the campfire and kindling the wood.

“And surely not everyone?” A deliberate smile reaches her amber hues. Niles knew of whom she referred to - a certain Nohrian prince whom he had been indebted to. “But I digress.” She goes off tangent, for the time being. “Are you fond of tea? Or perhaps, sweets?”

He really doesn’t appreciate being judged, read, looked upon with concern by someone who has no right, and it shows in the set of his face. Eyebrows furrowing, he looks at her, deciding if he should even give her the time of day. Deciding to, but simply for his amusement, he answers her.

“Ah, and I’d prefer you don’t look past me being caustic. My heart has nothing to do with this.” And there’s his grin, a threat. “Maybe wipe that sympathy off your face before I do it for you.” 

Racor spewed from his lips, words sharp as razor blades - and yet, in spite of this, she offers him a placid smile. “Violence amongst comrades is surely frowned upon. In any case,” she dips her head slightly in a bow. 

“I deeply apologize for my tactlessness. I had no intentions to pry. My gifts can be... unpredictable at times. I do not wish bad blood between us.” She apologizes in ernest.

Summer will come without end, overwhelming what bitter cold still clung to the good green earth. This, she has foreseen amidst phantom waves, consumed by an all knowing fire which burns between her ribs. Winter shall die a noble death, the lambs will be safely tucked beneath their mother’s breast; spring ushers in the dawn for a thousand millennia. Summer will be full of elderberries, fireflies, festivals, and smiles.

Upon granite slab was an offering for the omnipotent, Amaterasu. A handwoven bamboo basket, along with a single slip of paper. Though it has been a while, the Okitsune decides to bless the patron with her magic before procuring the oblation and returning to the Hoshidan base.

Canine spine peels back, fangs shrink, furs bubble into long ebony strands; beast turned woman.

Delicately, she raises her palms so that she may lift and open the case. Setting the lid aside, she finds four were intricately decorated confectioneries; Namagashi. They were shaped into a cherry blossom, a white rabbit, a black cat, and maple leaf.

“How cute,” she exclaims, softly.

Spiced wine and sandalwood. Intricate, musky, and somewhat fruitful. He tastes of molten tang entwined with grapes and other rich delicacies, but these things merely guise what lingers beyond his pale visage and sharp tongue. It is the musk of a man whose hands were stained with the blood of his foes. His sadistic and provocative nature stemming from privation and man’s cruelty... even so, there was gentle kindness that still remained - despite the Silent Dragon’s grip upon the land.

“You... have a heavy heart,” Shiori reflects aloud. Her golden optics held much sympathy for him.

It is beautiful - transient yet eternal. Caught amongst bellowing flowers and gentle wind. It could be captured in song or perhaps a poem. She cannot describe it, not in full. Amongst springtime whispers she sat perched beneath the blossoms awaiting no one; basking and relishing the moment of reprieve, for they were far in between.

Within her grasp was a single hapless Magnolia, tramped by heedless visitors. The Okitsune drew the wilted flower close, pressed tight against bosom wherein it may flourish beneath a vibrant golden sunbeam, her magic; a blessing granted to her by the gracious, Amaterasu.

The flower promptly perks, straightening itself as life seeped into its petals and flows down its stem. Life, in all forms, was precious. This flower was no exception.

Languid movements stretch across her white hide, gilded by wandering sunbeams from summer of yesteryear which dance and flicker amongst the foliage above them. Every breeze is dappled in fair wildflower perfumes. Every moment becomes an eternity rich with burgeoned fruits and comfort. Where there are words there are also dreams, they slip down the fine boughs like sap from a tree and crown them both with the innocence of tranquility.

Gentle footfalls are perceived, prompting her ears to perk as lids flutter open to reveal golden orbs of sight. Shiori lifts her head as her maw parts for speech.

“Greeting, Lady Megan. How may I serve you?”
