What is your opinion on BS/MD programs?
Well, it's not gonna be a very useful "opinion", because until you sent me this question, I had never HEARD of BS/MD programs in the US!
Um... I guess there would/does exist a category of high school seniors who WOULD be totally certain that they want to go to medical school, and would be (over?)-achieving enough to compete for these tough programs based on that desire. I certainly would not have been cut-throat enough to fight for this at 18 years of age (or any years of age) -- and I'm not sure exactly what kind of "personality" these gung-ho hard-charging docs will have when they get out into the real world... but hey, who am I to judge? :)
I know that many other countries funnel their medically-interested students into BS/MD-style programs quite early! I had a relative in South American who started her "medical schooling" at age 17 (although the total program took 7 years to complete, BEFORE residency). But I don't know enough about this scholastic track to speak knowledgably about it. Anybody else have some input on this?
