“Karl? Karl?” Poe called out for his furry friend, voice shaking slightly. He’d only looked away for a moment and Karl seemingly dissolved into thin air. “Karl? Karl where’d you go? I wanna go home…” he sighed, all he wanted to do was get some paper, snacks, and stretch his legs a bit before returning to his writing. “Poe-kun!” the Poe jumped at the familiar loud voice behind him “need a hand?” “P-please,” he turned around to face his Rival who was accompanied by another detective at the agency, the one with white lopsided bangs (he was blanking on his name at the moment) “I want to get back to my book but Karl’s disappeared.” Ranpo flashed him a grin “I expect some snacks sent to the agency for my services. Karl will be here in about a minute.” they waited in silence, knowing Ranpo’s predictions always came true. “Akutagawa!” Atsushi, Poe remembered was his name now, suddenly transformed his arms “why’re you here?”
Poe followed his gaze and paled at the sight of a tall man wearing a long black coat making his way towards them. He paled even more so when he realized his eyes were fixed on him. Completely ignoring Atsushi’s question, the man stopped in front of Poe before speaking “... do you have a pet racoon?” as he spoke, Karl’s head popped up from behind the man. “K-Karl! Th-there you are!” Karl chattered as he jumped into Poe’s outstretched arms. Finally, he could go home!
“I believe he mistook me as you,” the man spoke again “but still refused to leave when he realized his mistake. He probably wouldn’t have left my side until he found you again.” “O-oh, I-I’m sorry for the trouble,” Poe shrunk into himself, hugging Karl to his chest “I hope he wasn’t a nuisance.” the man’s mouth twitched at his words.
Poe began fridgeding under his intense gaze, avoiding his eyes “thank you for letting Karl stay with you, I’d be devastated if anything happened to him.” his mouth twitched again.
Poe felt a hand on his chin and suddenly found himself face to face with the man. He began panicking sighly from being so close to another person. “U-um,” he stuttered, wishing he could look away where but the man’s smoldering gaze “i-is there something wrong?” after what seemed like forever the man let go of his chin, “no, I just find you very attractive and cute.” His face went beet red “wh-what?” the man pulled out his phone, “give me your contact information.” “h-huh? Oh, okay…” Poe flumbled to take out his phone.
“Meet me at the gift shop next to the ferris wheel tomorrow at 8 and be prepared to walk around all day.” the man, Akutagawa, said as he closed his phone “there’s a small chance it could rain so be prepared for that. Until then.” he gave Karl’s chin a quick scratch before going on his way.
Poe watched him, dumbfounded. “Well,” he jumped at Ranpo’s laugh behind him, having forgotten he and Atsushi were there “that’s one way to ask someone on a date!”
