Adam tipped his head back over the arm of the couch, holding his book above his head. It was his four hundredth time reading Paradise Lost- he practically had it memorized by now.
"GUESS WHAT!" Edward popped up over the back of the couch. Adam shrieked and dropped the book onto his face.
"Don't DO that!" Adam huffed, sitting up and scowling at Edward over the couch.
"Sorry." Edward didn't look very sorry. In fact, he was grinning like a maniac.
Adam frowned at him. "What?"
Edward grinned wider and dropped a long, thin object into Adam's lap.
Adam picked it up. "You... Got a new cane?"
Edward cackled like a madman and tugged on the top of the cane. It pulled up, revealing a glint of metal beneath the wooden sheath.
"Woah." Adam pulled the blade out of the sheath completely. "A sword-cane?"
"Yup." Edward draped himself over the back of the couch.
"Where did you get it?"
"Er." Edward looked sheepish. "Let's just say I... Obtained it."
Adam raised an eyebrow. "You stole it, didn't you?"
"Mmmmmayyyyybe." Edward propped his chin on his hands.
Adam rolled his eyes. "You better hope Ren doesn't find out about that."
"He'd think it was hilarious."
"True." Adam sighed. "But he'd feel obligated to give you a lecture, and that would just be painful for all of us."
Edward giggled. "Yeah, you're right."
"Do you even know how to use one of these?" Adam sheathed the sword again and handed it back to Edward.
"Nah, but I'll figure it out." Edward said.
"Let's hope you 'figure it out' without breaking anything this time, hm?"
"The thing with the crossbow was an ACCIDENT." Edward complained. "And besides, it was mostly Van Helsing's fault anyway."
"So you've said." Adam ruffled Edward's hair and laid back down over the couch. "You want to read with me?"
"Okay." Edward swung himself over the couch and curled up on Adam's stomach.
Adam smiled and opened the book to the beginning. Edward drifted off as he began to read.
