Ha. Great question. One person’s sexy fun times kink is another person’s unresolved emotional trauma. 😂 Nah, seriously though. I write a lot about warrior archetype characters and one thing that comes up with some of said OC characters are similar dynamics tested out in BtB between those males experiencing semi-masochistic or aggressive/control tendencies — or who just plain like it rough. Naturally some of this has tamed between Kakashi and Genma, certainly compared to their insane ANBU days, where the death drug was cut with rough sex (life-affirming at the time) and mixed into a dangerous combination...which also changed over time as emotions got involved. Also, depends on your definition of kinky — Kakashi’s craving for intimacy (sublimated into the novels he reads) translates to wanting to hear his lover speak during sex — particularly Genma, as he knows Kakashi’s mind about as well as his body. Ah... not in the way Shizune would have hoped and she knows this. Genma feels conflicted where she is concerned; he respects her and cares for her, but he can’t give her what he knows she wants — his love. He tries to remain avoidant of what she continues to selflessly offer him, knowing he’s taken advantage of it in the past and might well do so again. She’s quite a sensitive topic for him.

How would Neji react to being revived, would his curse mark still be able to be activated, what are the reactions in the hyuga clan? Has Hiashi been haunted by his death? That sounds like an entire emotional shit show, would the hyuga have changed in this AU. so many things to explore. this isnt an exact question for you more so just rambles lol

Oh hells yes. Very much so. Shikaku’s passing has also affected him -- not to the same degree nor for the same reasons, but still, its impacted.

Emotional shit show on wheels, my lovely. And yes, there will have been some big changes since The War and Neji’s sacrifice. His return will garner some interesting ripples in those already turbulent waters.

How were you able to portray the characters of Neji and Shikamaru so well? Like, I re-read your BTB series when I get the chance and it’s just mesmerising... I can’t wrap my head on how much I feel as if they were the //real// Shikamaru and Neji and not just fiction. I know authors do re-search for their works but still, your story feels like you created Shikamaru and Neji and not Kishimoto. I’m intrigued! And I won’t believe you if you answer this question with just “doing research” -same anon

Yes, I definitely did my research; I’d watched the series and certain repeats of specific episodes to get into the “feel” of the Characters and create art to help explore this more. The very gritty and organic way that stories and characters tend to play out when I write make it difficult to pinpoint a precise strategy or model that I use...especially when it comes to the characters. One thing that baffles me Anon, is how the male characters always feel easier to write 🤣 and as a woman writer you’d think the opposite might hold true... though I know that’s not the case for all....but I digress...I really do wish I had a better answer for you, sweetie...

Oddly enough, despite having thought about this before, this particular dynamic is DEFINITELY one of those things I’ll only know when writing them in a scene together. Sometimes I have an idea beforehand, other times it only happens as I write — such is the case for these two!

I can say that Gai’s enthusiasm for Kakashi often garners mucho amusement on Genma’s part...at Kakashi’s solid expense, of course. 😉
