When his spirit wakes from death, Maedhros realises he has not been sent to the Halls of Mandos. Instead, he finds himself in the Void— and he is not alone.
Fingon pauses often to look upon sleeping forms of the Fëanárions amidst the Pools of Resting— still and silent fëar, their death-wounds still fresh and marring their forms.

Chapter Three
Fingon learns of Maedhros’ fate, and chooses to be reborn, so that he may travel into the Everlasting Darkness and pull Maedhros’ spirit back to Arda. The Valar grant his wish.
