Maedhros Fëanorion is dead, but his spirit came not to the Halls of Waiting— instead, at the breaking of his Oath, he was cast out into the Void.
Fingon, first of the Princes of the Exiles in Mandos, was offered a chance at rebirth and rejected it— choosing instead to wait for Maedhros. Now, he asks to be reborn, and once again he takes on a dangerous quest to save his loved one from torment and loneliness.

Chapter Four
When his spirit wakes from death, Maedhros realises he has not been sent to the Halls of Mandos. Instead, he finds himself in the Void— and he is not alone.
Fingon pauses often to look upon sleeping forms of the Fëanárions amidst the Pools of Resting— still and silent fëar, their death-wounds still fresh and marring their forms.

Chapter Three
Fingon learns of Maedhros’ fate, and chooses to be reborn, so that he may travel into the Everlasting Darkness and pull Maedhros’ spirit back to Arda. The Valar grant his wish.
