“Where’s Jungkook?” You physically flinched at the question.
You have been asked about it multiple times all day, everyone expected an answer– including yourself.
It has been almost two weeks since Jungkook has been distant. Two years of dating and he never did this to you once– ever. It was bothering you so much that it was practically eating you alive. You have thought about it hard and well, you did nothing wrong, you couldn’t think of a single one. You tried your best to approach him, to actually ask him what’s wrong, but he always shrugged you off, saying that it was nothing.
“I… I really don’t know, Jin,” You answered, feeling like you were about to cry. You tried the best you could to keep yourself intact for weeks now, so maybe this is when you finally break. You’re feeling all of the pain, frustration, and stress that you were hiding, and now you felt all of it… All at once.
Seokjin looked sympathetically at you as he a placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. But there was something in the way that he was looking at you. Something you’ve only seen on him a couple of times that you just had to ask.
“Is there something you know that I don’t?” You looked at him directly in the eyes, wishing that he would say something else, something that wasn’t related to this. You wished so hard that Seokjin wasn’t going to say what you were thinking, you just can’t simply accept it.
He heaved a heavy sigh, his eyes read guilt in them with a tinge of hurt. And you knew right there that what he was about to say would make your whole world crash.
“Y/n, I think Jungkook is cheating on you.”
“Jungkook, can we talk?” You asked him timidly. He was sitting beside you while he was texting on his phone. He right there, but you have never felt so far away from him more than ever.
It was movie night with him, the both of you were supposed to be enjoying this. But he felt so distant, it felt like you couldn’t reach him that it felt like it was physically hurting you. He entered your apartment like it was the most dreaded thing that he ever did. He just greeted you with the lightest kiss on the cheek and received the quietest ‘hey baby’ from him. You just ignored all of it, thinking that he might just be tired and you should just try to understand him. But then, he didn’t even dare say a single word to you all through out the night; his focus was on his phone and not even on the movie.
But then, he knew too well that once you called him by his real name, it was definitely something serious. He finally locked his phone and finally turned to you for the first time that night and it shattered you. He looked dull, empty, not even a tinge of emotion evident of his face.
“What’s wrong?” He was about to cut you off and stand up, but you immediately held his wrist, your tears brimming. “Please, just tell me the truth… Just this once, Jungkook,” He didn’t even look at you. “Please…”
His eyes closed momentarily, and I can feel that he actually felt something there, and somehow, that gave me hope. He sighed, holding your hand that wrapped around his wrist. “It’s nothing,” He whispered as he let go of your hand before he left you at your apartment, broken and in tears.
Your eyes were still sore and blood shot red. You thought that what Seokjin told you was impossible at first, but when you thought about it, it did make sense. The way he acted, the way he texted, the way he didn’t even talk to you. The truth slapped you right across the face. Some of your friends hinted it before, but you trusted Jungkook with all your heart, you knew then to trust him more.
One of Jungkook’s friends from his university told Jin about the girl that Jungkook was seeing, and you thought that you were just imagining the things Seokjin was saying. It was Jeon Jungkook, the man that you loved with all your heart for two whole years-- he can’t cheat on you, he would never.
Someone knocking on the door made you stop from your moping and actually stand up from your bed. You opened the door to your apartment to see Seokjin, a paper bag in hand. He lifted it up to show you the chocolate ice cream inside as he offered you a heart warming smile. And at that very moment, you were so thankful that you were friends with someone like him. He was always there for you when you needed him most, comforting you, and giving you company. He was the friend that you could ever ask for.
“I brought you ice cream,” He said sheepishly. Your heart melted, feeling the tears well up in your eyes for the nth time that day. Without any second thoughts, you wrapped your arms around him, hugging him tight to you as you buried your face on his neck.
Seokjin stiffened in your touch, but when he felt a tear drop, he immediately hugged you and ran a comforting hand on your back. He hushed you gently, whispering in your ear that everything will be alright.
“What did I do wrong, Jin?” You sobbed, your chest tightening. Seokjin sighed as he tried to hold you at arms length. He had a sad smile on his lips, his eyes glimmering.
“You did nothing wrong, y/n,” His fingers held up your chin, making you look at him in the eyes. “Trust me when I tell you that, okay? You’ve been a great and loyal girlfriend to him. Now stop overthinking and eat your ice cream before it melts, alright?” His thumb wiped away the tears that continued to roll down your cheek, smiling at you.
You spent the rest of the night with him, moping, as the both of you watched random movies on tv as the both of you ate your hearts out. The mere presence of Kim Seokjin right beside you made you comfortable enough to get your mind out of your failing relationship.
You were sound asleep on Seokjin’s lap as he combed through your fair with his fingers when you heard the door to your apartment open.
“Hyung,” your heartbeat then skyrocketed at the all-too-familiar voice that you heard. It was the first time in weeks since you’ve heard his voice clearly inside your home. You kept your eyes shut, curious why he’s even here.
Seokjin shushed Jungkook as he went further inside. “She’s sleeping,” He whispered.
“What are you doing here?” Jungkook gently asked. You, yourself, were curious to why Jungkook’s here even without you telling him to come. And by this time, it was probably past midnight.
“No, what are you doing here?” Seokjin answered back. You felt his hands slowly lift your head as he stood up and gently placing your head on a pillow.
“I’m her boyfriend,” You could almost see Jungkook saying it sarcastically. “I always come here every night to check if she’s doing okay,” You almost couldn’t hear the last sentence he said. He mumbled it to Seokjin, making you think that you were probably dreaming. You didn’t know that he was doing that, you had no idea.
“Checking on her?” Seokjin scoffed at that.
“Yeah, I’m checking on her, it’s not like—“ Jungkook suddenly stopped. There was silence between them. You were so nervous that they could probably hear the loud thumping of your heart.
“You told her… Didn’t you?”
“Well what was I supposed to tell her, Jungkook?” Seokjin questioned a little loudly. “I had to tell her! You can’t just keep on lying to her like that.”
“I didn’t have a choice, hyung, you know that!”
“You did have a choice. You had a choice to just tell her the truth! She was fucking miserable, Jungkook! She thought she wasn’t enough for you! She thought that she was the reason why you acted like this!”
“What do you want me to do? The damage is done! You know that what happened was a mistake!”
“What was that mistake, Jungkook?”
