The digital remastered versions' greatest sin is that the new aspect ratio cuts off the shot of their hands halfway and you canât fully see him literally CRADLING her injured hands. So here you go. Brb going to stare at this forever.
âWe're not all gonna make it. You know that.â âYeah. Hey, I always knew I'd go down fighting.â
BTVS || 6.03, 5.22 // Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush
Spuffy are literally married to me in the context of canon. Iâm not even sorry. They just are. They were canonically engaged and they never officially broke up that engagement and then there was wedding imagery in after life. That was literally a marriage. ïżŒThen chosen was an even more intense vowel renewal. Like I just donât see how you can tell someone you love them while your intertwined hands burst into flames and NOT be married. There was even an exchange of jewelry.
You know whatâs crazy? Just absolutely bonkers about After Life? Itâs the way the demon that Buffyâs resurrection createdâŠthe price for bringing her backâŠthe one that taunts her about being âbarely there,â just as it isâŠis described in the script as looking like a drowned woman. Itâs a drowned woman dressed in whiteâŠ
The framing of this shotâŠtheyâre literally getting married okay
Iâm sorry Iâm still being unhinged about After Life and likeâŠokay itâs the way the undertones of Spike and Dawnâs arc in that episode are slightly different from the scoobies. The scoobies arc is âhooray! We saved Buffy from hell! Is she okay? Why isnât she happy?? Why isnât she smiling and thanking us? Is she okay? Buffy are you okay? Sheâs probably okay.â But Spike and Dawnâs plot is they can pretty clearly tell something is wrongâŠthat sheâs not okay. But they still care very much about her and are really protective. And this episode majorly floats the idea of her âcoming back wrong,â even baits the audience with it a bit. But the thing is the overwhelming reaction from Spike and Dawn isâŠthey donât care. Early on in the episode the scoobies suggest maybe Buffy could be crazy and wild and dangerousâŠand then we immediately cut to Dawn taking her home. BECAUSE DAWN DOEST CARE. Her sister just crawled out of her grave. Sheâs dirty and bloody and her hair is a mess and she does look âwildâ like the scoobies suggest. But Dawn doesnât care. Then thereâs Spike a while later, making it very clear that had they brought her back wrong, he wouldnât have allowed them to kill whatever came back if there was even a chance it was Buffy. And Dawn has a similar freak out on Willow later when even the suggestion of undoing Buffyâs resurrection comes up, and sheâs bothered by it for the rest of the episode. In conclusion, both the scoobies and Dawn and Spike know on some level that something is wrong, but the scoobies convince themselves itâs not and everything is all good news and sunshine. Dawn and Spike donât really do that, theyâre prepared to accept the reality that she did come back wrongâŠbut that doesnât change anything. Theyâd fight for her tooth and nail regardless.
Reading the Buffy scripts is wild because then you Notice Things that donât necessarily mean anything other than a reflection of the writerâs character portrayalsïżŒ. Like itâs David Fury not writing the scene in Bargaining ii where Dawn is sleeping on the couch and Spike is sitting up watching tv and that scene being added later then itâs Jane Espensen writing a scene in After Life where Spike is freaking out trying to find Dawn and it getting cut
