just a general shoutout to the amazing makeup and effects team on BTVS (and I assume ATS) who helped bring so many fun looking monsters to life. (yes, there were some computer ones, but on a rewatch, it’s wonderful seeing how well quality practical effects can hold up.) we’ve got vampires and werewolves and fish boys and a frat house reptile and loose skinned demons and fyarls and m’fasniks and that yellow guy with arm knives and Glory’s sycophants and the polgara and Sweet and the Gentlemen and vengeance demons and Gnarl and Turok-Han and der Kinderstod and the Suvolte….

There is a lot of talk about the inconstistency of the soullore in the Buffyverse, which is fair cause it's a mess, but I haven't seen anyone mention what the fuck happened to the werewolf design???

Here is the best picture I could find of a werewolf from season two. It walks on it's hindlegs, kind of hunched over but the "arms" don't touch the ground. It has medium grey fur, pointed ears on top of the head, like a wolf and it's face, the same colour as the fur, is pretty much shaped like a wolf's with a snout that sticks out. Overall, pretty good for a ninetys series lowbudget episode. 10/10 would try to pet

In season four however, the werewolf runs on all four? The fur is dark grey with a speck of white under the chin. So far, so okay, but the ears? They are now human ears and, the worst part, the FACE. It has pretty much the same proportions as a human face but it's distorted and grotesque, not entirely unlike the vampires of the show. It's kind of orangey and gnarled, the nose is twice as wide as it should be and the teeth are sharper. The face looks like it's made from plastic, this is some kind of abomination from hell

And it's not like it can be explained by, like, that there are different kinds of werewolves, because THIS IS THE SAME GUY! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED???
