get him again for me darla
sorry for implying every woman on the show wants buffy its just 1) true 2) that shes only a girl part time (famously!) so the crushes arent even gay... its like the relationship utena and jeyi have with their classmates... i need to read hanamonogatari / class s lit i find this dynamic so interesting + the doubled gendering of buffy (+slayer) / utena (+prince) / jeyi (+??? i need to think more about this. in my mind her position as her fathers heir is her primary masculinising force but idk if/how this translates to her being a safe object of desire in the classroom. +alpha)
not to be all 2010s tumblr feminism but my girls....
buffy so vitriolicaly hating the guy who was taking advantage of by an older woman for murdering her. ok sweetheart :'(
i really love how theyve written 'soulless' (<- i just think this is a silly designation) angel re: him and buffy so far. it doesnt veer into caricature its very grounded in the semantics of angel being her abusive older boyfriend who fucked and dumped her and mocked her for her inexperience but is still trying to control her. the central conceit of this episode is buffys fear of angel climbing through her window and harming her… even the sketch he did of buffy while she was sleeping yayyy subverting their romantic cliches. and now the only way she can attempt to explain angel's behaviour to joyce is to lean so heavily into this rhetoric its awesome. i <3 vampire shows where the vampirism is mutable
edit: this isnt rlly going to be coherently phrased but i always thought it was extremely striking when buffy wld get in fights with male vamps and get beaten on. im sure the writers thought it was very equal-rights-equal-fights feminist but now watching how much angel gets off on hurting buffy like this.....
in btwn punching her in the face ^
+ how so much of angels violence is sexualised obviously in his taunts against buffy ("lover" being the tamest of them) but was principally thinking of jennys murder. holding her against himself + "this is where u get off" + placing her in giles' bed with the expectation she would be a participant in sex. and the first person he kills being a sweet blonde woman who was trying to help him. its soooo scary ik this is hardly outstanding never before seen analysis but its crazy that s2 is just is u give ur creepy boyfriend sex theres a chance he will stalk and abuse u forever and adults dont really care adult women specifically are also seemingly desensitised to this style of predation so they just leave u to deal with it alone.
