I love writing "beneath the wine-dark sea" because I get to let out all my little fucked-up author desires in a controlled environment. I can explore non-human povs that have very limited knowledge of humans, I can explore themes of dehumanization, I can do anything I want!
the problem is that I end up needing to triple check every time I want to use certain language for certain characters. Apo will never use "they" to refer to a singular mer or use any major technical terms regarding tanks or biology. Legs will never use "it" for a mer and will also not call them "mer" as he's stuck on "siren" at the moment, plus he almost exclusively will use technical terms. Owen doesn't know many human terms so I can't even say "glass" or "tank"! I spend so much time cross-referencing terms I've used in previous chapters to ensure consistency if nothing else!
yet I wouldn't have it any other way 😌
