“is that coming from you?” you challenge, and he sighs, turning back to his laptop and typing. it doesn’t feel as stressful by your side, he thinks, and the hours seem to tick by a lot faster.

“i have lots to do,” he argues, and there’s almost a pout on his lips as he explains himself—you realize the sight makes your heart pound in your chest just a little.

“you should take breaks, you know. it’s healthy,” you murmur. there’s a beat of silence, and then he looks up just as the barista places your coffees before you both, a cheery smile on her face.

“you lovebirds enjoy your drinks,” she winks, and just as you open your mouth to correct her, akaashi speaks first.

“thank you, miss,” he smiles, his eyes darting to meet yours through his glasses. and this time, it’s you who thinks his gaze feels just a little more intimate than before.
