There are many impressive memorials (spomenik) in former Yugoslavia honouring events during WWII, in the National Liberation War against Axis occupation. The Bubanj memorial complex in Niš commemorates 10-11,000 antifascists, communists, Roma, Jews and Serbs who had been interned in the ‘Red Cross’ concentration camp in Niš and were executed at this site by the Nazi occupiers.
