AIDS was originally a freak accident. Transmission from animal to human--doesn't that sound familiar now. Reagan openly banned the CDC from doing anything, because it was hurting queers--doesn't that sound familiar, only it was worse, only we lost an entire generation.
We fought and staged die-ins and did contact tracing. We now have a CDC actively helping; we have medications that can make HIV undetectable; you won't die of AIDS anymore and there's ways not to get it.
And now we have healthy, living babies coming from a modified AIDS. From that which killed us comes healthy, happy children.
