#365DaysOfVGM Day 115:
Asteroid 1 [Plan 9 From Meowter Space/Star Claws: The Fur Awakens] (Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back [2017])
This track is on even ground with the previously-linked “Welcome to Wonderland” track from 17 days ago as a contender for “most epic-sounding Bubsy series track”, with plenty to offer in that regard.
There’s some oddly familiar sample usage and reverb to compliment the obvious space theme-ing, with light Electric Drum sounds too. Some sounds implemented here come from the iloSynth-1 preset, specific parts of which you can see highlighted from the composer of this track, Fabian Del Priore, on YouTube via the channel called “Rapture Music”!
Armed with such knowledge, I can identify a couple more of the sounds used, such as the Rubber Bass (2) that sets up the “cool” parts of the melody, or the Sync Leads, which are my least favorite part, if only because I feel like the melody they introduce is done better by the other sounds present afterwards.
Alongside the previous Bubsy track from the day before yesterday and Day 96’s as well, this one’s a serious contender for the best track in the series, albeit in their own different ways, since this one’s in the middle ground between the “serious + cool” and the “cartoony + happy” moods of the 2 other contenders.
This is also the last Bubsy track in the list, but not my last bit of appreciation for the Bubsy series as a whole; even with the previous month’s news concerning series founder Michael Berlyn’s passing, I’d be interested in seeing a new game announced, should it honor what he left behind
(Length before loop: 2+ minutes)
