There are so many phenomenal omegaverse fics in this fandom, but I keep thinking about the dynamics if one of them was a beta.
Rambling thoughts behind the cut.
Like omega!Gale gets paired up with beta!John because the army is convinced that too many omegas in one place will sync up their heats and obvs he can't room with an alpha. And John can't claim him the way an alpha would - no scenting capabilities - so he finds other ways, like giving him his name and a silk scarf, but Gale finds alpha posturing distasteful anyway, and John is charming and they're them so obviously they fall in love. And it's constantly causing problems, because Gale's turning down alphas left and right and then letting John squeeze his face Like That, and there are snide remarks about what a waste of an omega that gets someone punched by one of them (or Curt).
And if Gale DID go into heat, what does that look like, biologically? Like his body is craving an alpha but he only wants John, and it's the one thing John can't provide - a bite, a knot, alpha pheromones. They're both too stubborn to let that get in the way, but they'd suffer and worry and angst about it first.
OR
Beta!Gale steps in to help alpha!John through a surprise rut (Algeria?) and whoa, he was not expecting to like the knot, and shitty sex ed classes say that only omega bodies are built to compensate for it, but they make it work, in a fort in the middle of the night with Vaseline from a first aid kit. And John bites him anyway, because he's always loved Gale, dreads the idea of settling down with some omega, and he probably should've asked even if it's not going to like, bond them for life. And maybe it heals, maybe it scars and brands Gale as John's in a way that they both secretly love but both worry over, thinking about what the other one could have in more traditional relationships (John obsesses over what Marge will think more than Gale does) and the miscommunication and potential for resentment before they finally scream it out.
Anyway, I just really like the idea of them telling even biology to fuck off, and think they would brood about it beautifully. Also interested in omega!John/beta!Gale and alpha!Gale/beta!John because I think the dynamics would be different, but I am trying really hard to finish a crochet project and need to stop the word vomit.
