Mine pt. 6
Summary: The due date is fast approaching, but you’re alone in the Tower still, since your spouses, and the rest of the team, are still on the mission. Fury is getting the cold shoulder for sending both of your mates into the field, and you can only hope that they’re back in time for the birth.

“Are you sure you’re alright?”
“Of course, it’s just my allergies flaring up.”
You smiled at Bucky and Loki, while trying to convince them that everything was fine, and that they didn’t need to steal the quinjet and come home. They’d been gone for two weeks now, but had checked in via video almost every day.
“Seems more than just allergies,” Loki commented, after you gave a mighty sneeze and had to grab tissues from the ever present box.
“It’s just allergies,” you repeated. “Fury sent a huge bouquet of flowers in an effort to apologize, and the carnations got me all clogged up. I started to throw them away, but sent them to the nurses’ desk instead. Ms. Stewart has made the tea for me, per your instructions, and I’ve drunk it. So, I’m fine.”
“No fever?” Bucky asked, then. “And no coughing?”
“A slight fever, and cough, this morning,” you told them. “The doctor has sent meds for those, and we’re ahead of the curve.”
They were both quiet, while they tried to determine whether you were being completely honest. You waited, worriedly, to see if Loki would believe you. If he didn’t, then he and Bucky would absolutely abscond with the jet, regardless of the mission status, or threats from the others.
You weren’t lying, you just weren’t telling the whole truth. The fact of the matter was that you felt miserable, you couldn’t sleep, and the fever had drained you. It wasn’t a high fever, but was enough to give you chills and a headache. The cough made your throat sore, and you hoped that it wouldn’t settle in your chest. If it did, you knew that nothing would stop them from coming home.
“Very well, pet,” Loki conceded. “If anything should change - “
“I’ll let you know, I promise,” you replied. His use of the name ‘pet’ indicated that he wasn’t quite convinced, but would accept your assurances.
“Is there anything else that we should know?” Bucky asked.
“No, babe, I promised that I would tell you, and I will.”
“Alright,” he replied. “You tell our child that he or she better not get here unless we’re back.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ve been doing that every single day.”
“We have to go now,” Loki said.
“Okay. I love you both,” you replied. “Miss you.”
After they reciprocated, they’d signed off, and you set your tablet aside with a sigh, just before a cough had you doubling over. The nurse on duty handed you a glass of water, and a wet washcloth, and waited until you handed the glass back.
“Tea?” She asked.
“Please.”

Once the video call was over, Loki knew that something was off. He and Bucky could both tell that you weren’t well, although maybe not unwell enough to make them bolt for home.
“Do you think we should leave?” Bucky asked, quietly.
“I’m not sure,” Loki replied. “Perhaps we should ask Stark to connect us to the doctors.”
So they sought Tony out, who agreed to have Jarvis get the doctors online. While they waited, Loki paced while Bucky simply flexed his vibranium fingers, which caused the servos to whir softly. Tony watched them both, and thought that once it was time for the baby, they’d likely be punchy, stabby, or panic stricken, and while it might be funny at first, he knew they wouldn’t find anything amusing about it.
Finally, Jarvis was able to conference them with the doctors. Bucky took the tablet and held it so that the doctor could see them both.
“Are you treating her allergies effectively?” Loki asked. “She is very congested, and advised us that she’s had a fever.”
“Yes, sir,” the doctor replied. He then explained what had been done already, and that the baby wasn’t stressed. “She’s following our recommendations, and is doing very well. We don’t anticipate any issues, and this should pass quickly.”
“Please keep us updated if anything comes up,” Bucky said. “She’s promised to let us know, but we’re certain that she’ll gloss stuff over to keep us from being alarmed.”
“Of course. There’s nothing to worry about.”
Once the call ended, they moved away from the others for privacy. Bucky glanced at Tony briefly before turning his gaze to Loki.
“What do you think?” He asked. “I don’t recall her ever having allergy symptoms like that.”
“She seems fine, other than the congestion,” Loki replied. “I think we should give it a few more days, and if she’s not better…”
“We take the jet,” Bucky finished. “Tony will blow a gasket. Fury, too.”
“I don’t really care what they say or do, but you do know how to fly the thing, right?”
