some of the stuff people say just blows my mind like at one point someone put their tumblr url in the chat and told people to follow them and just /////no/////
jesus christ why. i'm reading this response from a kid and he literally gave away the place he works at 'incase any of you want to say hello' and i just
bruh
why
dude do you do k12 online as well because i get such secondhand embarrassment when we do anything in a public discussion
god yeah i actually never take part in any of the discussions im always late for them which is why im currently submitting a response 10 minutes before the deadline they're all so embarrassing and everyone's attempts to be interested in one another is so fake it makes me want to cry
so there is this new kid at my work who is really creepy- i heard a rumor at work that he got fired from his last job because he wouldnt stop staring at a girl's ass, and then he confirmed it after complaining "i never wanna hear the words sexual harassment again i was just talking to this girl-" and im like whelp and stayed by my manager the rest of the night. he follows the girls around and doesnt understand person space. any advice? (this is for blograte btw)
Try talking to the manager about this and ask your manager to talk to this guy about changing his behavior in the workplace

bro you should come get donuts from me at work i made gingerbread cookies last night ill bring one in for you. can you officially be my baking bro as well
DUDE we are Ohio Bros and also baking bros, that is rad.
I am all about that. It is official now.
I love baking so much.
I wish I could try your gingerbread cookies! I'm going to make a whole bunch of chocolate chip cookies today. And M&M cookies.
Fast food coffeeshop, bro. Think lots of brewing, lots of donuts, and lots of "haha GLAZE IT" while making said donuts. The new kid is screwed.
I have never worked in any kind of food service, so I have like, no context. But it sounds like you have fun. I think working in a coffee shop would either be fantastic or torture, smelling delicious coffee all day.
It's bad enough at my job when third shift comes in and starts brewing their coffee.
here is said requested ask: all the juicy deets about university of cincinnati and the surrounding area
GO BEARCATS WOOOO
Okay, so this is going to be more about Cincinnati itself, with some bits about the University of Cincinnati, because I spent most of my college career living at home and commuting. And I’m really enthused about Cincinnati right now because I’ve got all kinds of cool stuff going on. (But it is my alma mater, and I am considering returning for more education, so I will gush a little.)
If you’re just being practical, Cincinnati is pretty nice. Our cost of living is a bit cheaper than the national average, and there are a lot of big employers in the area. That’s good if you are looking for a skilled job or an unskilled one - most of the people with decent qualifications get snapped up by P&G, or GE, or TQL, or one of the larger banks, leaving retail, entertainment, and food service jobs with openings. The stadiums and special events venues hire a ton of college students, and so does Kings Island from April to October.
Plus the University of Cincinnati is a really good school at a more reasonable price than most schools on the same level, especially if you qualify for in-state tuition. And all those big employers mean your opportunities for internships and work-studies are pretty nice.
And our libraries, both public and on-campus, are pretty kick-ass.
The next question is, what do you like to do? Because Cincinnati has a little bit of everything! If you can't find something to do, the problem is you, not Cincinnati.
Do you like sports? We’ve got the first professional baseball team in the nation, in a gorgeous new stadium. Opening Day is a huge event here - people get off of work for it and tons of kids are allowed to skip school. You can usually get halfway decent tickets cheap other than Opening Day. There’s even a baseball museum there. You’ll be rooting for your Cincinnati Reds in no time. There’s also the Bengals if you like football. (I don’t, really, so, sorry if you do, I can’t tell you much.) UC’s Bearcats draw a crowd in basketball and football, and so does Xavier University. This is very much a city that loves its sports - you’ll spot tons of people in team colors on any given day, and on game day it’s more odd to see someone not sporting gear that supports their team. There’s also the minor league hockey team, the Cyclones, and Cincinnati Roller Girls roller derby.
Maybe you’re more of an arts person. Cincinnati boasts a really impressive collection of performing arts venues for a city its size, and they are always booked. Plus, if you’re under 35, there is a really awesome thing called Enjoy the Arts that you can buy, that gets you a free pair of tickets to most of the attractions with discounts after those are gone. It’s only $35 if you’re a student. Playhouse in the Park, the Know Theater, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, and the Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati are professional troupes that perform year-round, and there are always any number of amatuer or university-level performances, and there is usually something touring at the Aronoff, be it Broadway Across America, or something else. The Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras are amazing, and you can also check out the Cincinnati Ballet or Cincinnati Opera. There are all kinds of ways to get involved in community or on-campus productions or any number of choral groups if that's more your thing.
There are a bunch of street festivals throughout the seasons, as well. Riverfest and the Taste of Cincinnati are among the nation’s most popular.
If you like museums, you've hit the jackpot. There's the aforementioned baseballs museum. There's Union Terminal (aka the building they based the Hall of Justice on in Super Friends), which houses the Cincinnati Museum Center. That building includes the Cincinnati History Museum, the Museum of Natural History and Science, an Omnimax Theater, the Cincinnati Historical Library, and the Cincinnati Children's Museum. Cincinnati is also home to the Underground Railroad Freedom Center. There's the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Taft Museum of Art. The Sign Museum, the Fire Museum, and the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. And that isn't even all of them.
The Cincinnati Zoo is pretty fantastic, and Newport Aquarium just over the river isn't bad, either. We've also got Drake Planetarium, the Khron Conservatory, and the Cincinnati Observatory. Not to mention Kings Island right next door to Cincinnati is one of the best amusement parks I've ever been to. (And roller coasters are a hobby of mine. I've been to a LOT of theme parks.)
If you'd rather be outdoors, we have rather a lot of parks, too, and many are really nice. The Cincinnati Nature Center is one of my favorite places.
Let's talk about food? Because Cincinnati is home to some weird food that everyone seems to love. Any native that moves away has friends or relatives ship them Skyline Chili. Findlay Market is an impressive public market that you might want to frequent, and I would be amiss if I didn't mention Jungle Jim's, the ridiculous international grocery store that has to be experienced at least once. Look it up, or ask hawkcyes, because I keep texting her pictures of things I find there. Once you're 21, there are some really top-notch bars, pubs, and local breweries here, as well.
Okay, time to talk about school.
The University of Cincinnati is a Tier One University. It's consistently ranked overall in the top 100 in the nation and 200 worldwide, but depending on your major - and there are over 600 programs of study, from associates degrees and certificates to doctoral programs, the rankings might be even better. It's most definitely a great research university, but you don't run into some of the problems you would at a lot of research schools, where it's all about the grad students. I never felt neglected as an undergrad, and one of my friends (a biochem major) was heavily involved in research projects by sophomore year.
Almost all of the arts programs are top ten in the nation. The education, engineering, and medical colleges are pretty impressive, as well.
I actually took a lot of classes on satellite campuses, but main campus (Uptown) has some pretty impressive architecture and is just a really nice campus. Living on campus has gotten safer in the last few years but right around campus can be pretty rough. When I was working at Disney World and still taking online classes from UC, I used to get email alerts about assaults and robberies often enough to freak my small-town roommate out quite a bit. I always carried pepper spray on campus. Always.
If you have specific questions about UC, feel free to ask. If I don't know the answer, I almost certainly know someone who does. I'm just not sure what else to say about it.
Let’s get the bad out of the way. Reasons why you might not want to come to Cincinnati. Number one, the complete lack of public transportation. There’s a kind of okay bus system right around downtown and the area where UC is, so you might be able to get by without a car if you’re living on campus, but most people find it a necessity. We've spent millions on a subway and never managed to make one that works. It's terrible. Now they are working on a street car system. I'm not optimistic.
Number two, umm. Let’s say diversity. Cincinnati is about 50% white and 45% black, so if you’re anything else, you’re going to get some stares in public. People can be rude. I’ve run into a decent amount of it, and I’m only 1/4 Spanish. There are just a lot of blonde-haired, blue-eyed people here. Cincinnati occasionally gets some flack for racism, but right now it’s more of an underlying let’s-just-leave-each-other-alone. It’s getting better, but a lot of Cincinnati is split into black neighborhoods and white neighborhoods. But like, if you just google race riots? An article on riots Cincinnati had in 2001 is the third result. Cincinnati is not gay-unfriendly but there isn't as much of a community here as you'd find other places. A lot of people who live in Cincinnati travel to Dayton or Columbus for the gay community there.
Third is a little less intense, and that’s weather and allergies. We get hot, sticky summers and cold, wet winters with very little spring or fall in-between. A lot of people that don’t have sinus or allergy problems will experience them here. Because Cincinnati is in a valley, the weather can be unpredictable even with the best meteorologists.
So yeah, I'm going to make myself stop now. Phew. Please let me know if you want to know anything else at all! I will (obviously) talk about this stuff all day.
oh my god i saw the judge two nights ago and im still not okay as soon as you get a chance watch that. the movie chef is also amazing and any books by robin hobb are amazing MEDIA IS JUST AMAZING
