he’s Isaiah Bradley, who is a character from marvel comics, also known as “the black captain america.” he was a WWII-era super soldier borne of some rly racist experiments by the government to recreate steve rogers’ serum. also, in the comics, he’s eli bradley/patriot’s grandfather.
in my fic, isaiah is steve’s roommate and the team’s running back. i also gave him the nickname “ice” because “isaiah” seemed like a lot for football players to throw around all day every day.
if i’m honest, the isaiah bradley in targeting is baaaaasically an OC in all but name. i really like isaiah and eli bradley, and wanted to include them, but they blossomed w/ this backstory that has nothing to do with canon.

3. Are they open about their relationship? How do they feel about public displays of affection? yyeess they’re open, like. within their life circle. but to the public not so much, only because they both steadfastly avoid media, especially discussing their private lives w/ media.
as for pda like yes and no …. they’re v chill and they’re not rly gooey or romantic or anything. but they scoot realy close and lean on each other, shove each other, mess with each other, tease each other, like constantly. they invented playing footsie.
9. Do they discuss big issues? Religion? Marriage? Children? Death? NOT RLY!!!! it’s bucky and ice, please. they open up to each other more than to other people, which is the sweetest and best thing about them. (like they are both sullen and quiet ALL THE TIME–unless they’re together, especially alone together.) but that still doesn’t make them good communicators overnight. they both are generally too shy to start deep conversations.
it comes up eventually, becasue they’re healthy and they love each other. it’s just usually on accident. like when they’re hanging out with eli’s family and isaiah spends ten minutes getting to know all the names of tanya’s beanie babies. bucky (and everyone tbh) is like 😍😍😍

10. Who drives? Cooks? Does the handiwork? Cleans? Pays the bills? Handles the public? THEY BOTH DRIVE!!! LISTEN!!!!! ice and bucky are both car guys!!! you know bucky is great and all but the stingray rly got isaiah attached!!! he’s got a detail guy in the quad cities. he hooks bucky up.
bucky cooks. kind of. oh my god i never thought about this …. ice is canonically useless in the kitchen lmao. LMAOOO. they probably experiment together. isaiah probably googles recipes and reads bucky the directions.
they share the handiwork i guess … the easy stuff. they strike me as the type to call professionals tbh. that nfl money. same with cleaning. bucky probably does basic chores.

17. What would make them break up? Would it be permanent? i never thought about this (bc it’s sad, wtf) but i love the idea that like …. they both get drafted and they’re far apart and they do this STUPID THING and agree to take a break. kind of like a “hey, it’s been fun, but i’m not gonna see you for at least 5 months, i don’t expect you to just be a hermit for the entire NFL season.” and they think they broke up but in actuality they text each other constantly, they even make goddamn phone calls, ISAIAH AND BUCKY, TALKING ON THE PHONE, and ice visits over his bye week, and bucky comes to ice’s playoff games. they pretend they’re friends with benefits because they hook up every time they see each other.

they’re fooling themselves, is what i’m saying, and no it’s not permanent, and they pretend to do the off-and-on thing for a few months but they’re never really “off” they’re just figuring things out.
18. What are their dates like? How long do/did they date? Do they ever feel the need to take a break from each other? their dates are all-or-nothing. either they go out for the day, walk around the city, go to a ballgame, and go out for dinner and drinks afterwards--or they curl up and watch netflix. they’re a very stay-in kind of couple. bucky convinces ice to play board games, and ice makes bucky watch ip man and ong-bak (which he’s never seen???? a crime????)
25. How much time do they spend together? Do they share their feelings, or hold things in? first of all, when they have the opportunity, they’re ALWAYS together. not creepily handsy or attached at the hip, but they genuinely spend all their time together because they like each other so damn much.
i can’t see them sharing deeply profound heart-to-heart conversations with intense eye contact and all. it’s hard. (when they fight it’s mostly because one of them got over-emotional and shut down and the other is like “talk to me dammit i can’t read your mind!!!”)
but listen ..these two are the world champ contenders for “who can hold things in better.” but i feel like that’s what makes them connect so well. they do communicate, and because theyre both quiet, they’re also both good listeners. they’re FUCKING soulmates no big

ice’s MOM!!!! OMG!!!! she is absolutely over the moon seeing her son finally relax and smile once in awhile. so is eli, altho eli definitely gave bucky the shovel talk at least twice; and kate, ice’s no. 1 frenemy. the nieces love both of them BYE!!!!!!!
bucky’s family is fine with it, they’re kinda awkward because they’re awkward people and he’s dating an NFL running back, like damn.
39. Who initiated the relationship? Who kissed who first? When did they realize they were in love? well, anon. i know you’ve probably thought about how they got together and believe me ........ idk what you have in mind but i promise would watch that movie.
anyway in MY head it started after they play each other the first time, because bucky is worried about steve, right? and ice is like “you want my number?” “what????” “i’ll text you the updates” “oh right the updates about steve yeah, your number, yes, right, ok”
and they text for a couple days or a week or so and bucky’s like, whatever what’s the worst that could happen, we already played the game, he can just say no, who cares,,,,,,,,, and he spends like 5 hours talking himself into asking isaiah out, but then isaiah ends up taking bucky out??? both.

they go to the aquarium and have an awesome time, good bye, because somehow bucky’s deep dark sarcasm is HYSTERICAL to isaiah, and isaiah is always so sincere, bucky thinks he’s incredible. in other words theyre helpless.
isaiah won’t pet the sharks, you know, the little bamboo sharks in the touch pools, and bucky’s like “come on they won’t do anything” and isaiah got his hands in his pockets and just says “i don’t wanna get all slimy, you hear me.” i mean he might be afraid. HE’S NOT, but .. he might be. ;)
but isaiah is fucking amAZED by the sea turtles. like eyes round, mouth open situation, he’s so happy about them that bucky can’t keep his EYES off him, it’s ABSURD.
they probably kiss that night. bucky kisses isaiah first, sort of, but it’s kind of a lingering, bashful, mutual thing.
they don’t say “i love you” for awhile. as i said before, they’re trying to Be Cool for a long time, even though it was basically love at first sight, certainly for bucky; ice was more ‘love at first snide remark.’ anyway. yeah .... probably over a year later, after isaiah loses in the playoffs. bucky’s staying with him, and he asks to stay longer, and then ice asks him to stay longer, and they do valentine’s day, and they stop being dumb. and they figure out they’re in love together, and they tell each other.
