Baccarat Hotel & Residences, NYC

Currently under construction, across the street from the Museum of Modern Art , on the site of the former Donnell Library, and steps from China Grill, is the 5-star Baccarat Hotel and Residences, at 20 W 53rd St.  The $400M project is a joint venture between Starwood Capital Group and Tribeca Associates, and Starwood's Barry Sternlict says the hotel will be "sensuous, luxurious and discreet."  He's not describing Grace Kelly in her youth; I do believe that the luxury brand and the real estate product will sparkle most alluringly when the project is completed in 2014, to coincide with Baccarat's 250th anniversary.

The 605-foot-tall building, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill [Manhattan House; Time Warner Center], will rise 46 stories, with interiors by the high-concept French designers Gilles et Boissier, who are responsible for, among others things, the restaurant Buddakan in the Meatpacking District.

The hotel — which will reportedly take up floors four through 12 — will contain 114 rooms and 26 suites. This being Manhattan in the new millennium, there will also be 64 luxury condos in the building.

The condos, above the hotel, will go on sale at the beginning of 2013, and KP can take you there.
