Today turned our to be one of the all-time, delicious lemonades made from life giving us lemons. When one set of plans fell thru because of the bad weather, thru some incredible generosity, we got to experience Black Creek Club in Chattanooga. The vertical movement of the Sandhills' golf courses provides so many opportunities for varying blind and semi-blind shots, creating uncertainty and excitement on top of the strategy. Perhaps that's why the region appeals to me so strongly. Brute strength seems to matter less than angles and distance control, very much in the linksland tradition. The Talamore New Course in Southern Pines was a fun addition to our trip that the guys unanimously agreed should be part of future Sandhills trips. The Rees Jones-renovated course matches fun, strategic elements, like mounds and depressions in fairways, thoughtful bunkering, and large, tilted greens to provide challenge and interest. Tobacco Road GC is such a special place. More than simply a golf course, it's a such a great walk.
