Buddleja x weyeriana ‘Golden Glow’ (Golden Butterfly Bush), rocking the sunlight and clear skies to be today’s #oneadayplant . The species x weyeriana is a cross between B. globosa (giving the Yellow balls) and B. davidii (giving the cumulative spikes of flower). . This variety has been around since the First World War and is a UK raised bi-species hybrid and cultivar. Still, surprisingly not very commonly planted. I think the x weyeriana cultivars are better than globosa for gardens as they flower more freely and the foliage is less oppressive than globosa. Most commonly seen is B. x weyeriana ‘Sungold’, which is 1960’s Dutch raised cultivar and a good thing. . A big shrub that insects like a lot. This flowering plant is known as “Buddleja davidii (spelling variant Buddleia davidii), also called summer lilac, butterfly-bush, or orange eye, and is a species of flowering plant in the family Scrophulariaceae, native to Sichuan and Hubei provinces in central China, and also Japan. It is widely used as an ornamental plant, and many named varieties are in cultivation. B. davidii is named after the French missionary and explorer in China, Father Armand David, who was the first European to report the shrub. It was found near Ichang by Dr Augustine Henry about 1887 and sent to St Petersburg. Another botanist-missionary in China, Jean-André Soulié, sent seed to the French nursery Vilmorin, and B. davidii entered commerce in the 1890s.” - Wikipedia .
