Colle, leading his horse down the tunnel on foot: Aand now we do this again

Colle: [Attempts to just jump up on the horse]

Colle: Hhhnope

Colle: Is there a rock around here somewhere..?

Winter apprentice: Do you need a leg up?

Colle: No no it’s fine I’m going to use this rock

Colle: Ok let’s just-

Horse: [Turning away from him]

Colle, getting off the rock again the manoeuvre the horse: Nnope. No thank you. Come back

Horse: [Not cooperating]

Winter apprentice: Do you want me to hold them for you?

Colle: Nope. I’m fine. Come here-

Horse: [Finally standing still next to the rock]

Colle: Huzzah

Horse: [Begins walking off midway through Colle swinging his leg over] (a bad habit I see a lot of horses have. They want to get moving)

Colle, slipping off: HHH- Ok. Back to the rock

Winter apprentice, noticing the giant coming over: Colle

Colle: I’m ok. I’ve got this

Winter apprentice: Colle

Colle: I’m fine just. Nearly there-

Winter apprentice, now struggling with a reversing horse: COLLE

Colle: ???? Ye- HEUCK

Not at all the point of the fic but I’ve thought of it and now I’ve gotta know. How many attempts did it take Colle to get on the horses in Fracturing Ice

Cause like. Horses are VERY difficult to get on from the ground, so if Colle doesn’t have a mounting block, he’s gonna have alot of trouble. Especially since you describe the winter Steve’s as larger than him, so their horses are going to be built for their size, and not him. Further adding to the difficulty

If he can’t get up on his own (and again no block) then one of the winter folk would have to help him (humiliating), by either giving him a step up with their hands or knee or something, or someone already on a horse pulling him up. This opens up the opportunity to have whoever’s helping him overcompensate and accidentally throw Colle straight over the other side of the horse (if he doesn’t slip on his own)

Sorry rambling. How many tries does it take Colle to get on the horse

I didn’t think about it at time of writing (minimal experience with horses) but I’d imagine it to be Several. He was too tired to count I’d imagine (my excuse for no solid number) but there was certainly some snickering about it from the peanut gallery.

I don’t remember if I wrote it but I was imagining his horse as one of the shortest of the lot, but it was probably taller than the ones in the Red Kingdom. I sincerely doubt he’d have a mounting block, but might have tried to use nearby surfaces (a fence, a hay bale, whatever) to limited success, especially if the horse was skittish or uncertain about him. Perhaps at one point one of the winter folk lift him up under the armpits in attempt to help him up (it doesn’t work). It Would be pretty funny if someone threw him over by accident but I think Colle probably does enough falling over on his own to count. I think in the end someone gives him a boost to get up, and he manages to stay on.

That being said mayhaps after their break someone doesn’t want to watch him flail around and attempts to help, only to (as you said) throw him over the other side of the horse.

Actually! Note on how big the horses were: considering the fact that it was Very Very cold, and much of their water was frozen, their hay supply would not be the greatest, so they probably would’ve had shorter horses more aligned with older farming horses. (Which were about modern pony size) I’d imagine they wouldn’t have anything near the size of modern large horses, though maybe somewhat bigger than old horses.

In Roll Call, everytime you say “Boss turned to scrutinise Colle” I imagine him staring at Colle like this

Colle: Hmnnn no I shouldn’t finish that sentence

Boss: No go on

Colle: “If I were in the mood I wouldn’t pursue the Apprentice, and he’s basically the only one that comes by here, so there’s nothing for you to worry about.”

Boss: Ah I’ve been neglecting him. Right. Fuck.

Very curious who’s been telling people Colle dances….. Also curious what you think Colle might do to get them back

as far as <i>Who</i> has been going around saying that… I like to leave it to interpretation. Could be (mostly) anyone honestly…

revenge would be very different depending on who it is. if it’s Genesis, he probably wouldn’t do anything. but if it were Beef, Sharp, someone he knows decently well, it would probably be petty. maybe convince someone to hide something of theirs in a weird place, give harmless but wildly wrong information… if it were Beef he’d probably consider turning him in, but if it were Goggles he’d either do nothing or something so convoluted it would take months for setup and months for payoff

Fracturing ice takes place before they’ve killed the inferno right? Colle is out to get the heart of winter to get the Winter Leaders help with the inferno

Consider though: Colle also befriending the giants and they just. Grab the inferno with a pair of oven mitts or something. No forest steve sacrifice neededd

unfortunately I think in canon the giants have a very bad time in sunlight and probably an also not great time with heat, so the desert is probably a no-go

I really wish the SL writers remembered the giants existed more than once. Cause like. Colle killed one of them. It’s how he got the winter leaders help. He killed a giant and took the heart of winter from him. The writers wanted Colle to feel so awful about everything he did but they completely skipped over the fact he killed a guy?? An entire sentient person?? An individual of a species that now only has three people left?? Colle NEVER thinks about that giant again but ohhhh what if he did. What if he could barely look the giants in the eye because he knew how little lightning it takes to kill them. What if he warned them to watch out for frozen lakes every time they went out because that’s how he caught the giant he killed. What if he was so adamant about them not even going out in the late dusk because he knew what it looked like for a giant to burn. (It was daytime when he teleported the heart-holder out the cave. It’s why colle lived. They were too busy trying to get out the sun to bother killing the unconscious steve)

Man. We never even get their name. SL writers why did you completely shelve the giants you could’ve done sooo much with them
