Anyone want a snippet of the beginning of chapter 10 of Stones???
The Stones Will Remember - Characters backstories: Bug, Wanda Maximoff, Natasha Romanoff, Iris Maximoff, Lizzy Mackenzie, Agatha Harkness & Rio Vidal.
🐞Bug🐞
Known as Bug, or LadyBug, given to R by Lizzy when they were kids, and it stuck. Wanda and Nat also call her Bug, or Little Bug, or Ladybird. Affectionate terms that make Bug feel safe.
Bug is 24 years old.
Grew up with her mother, father and sister Julia.
Complicated relationship with her mother, whose love was conditional, and her father and sister, who were both abusive.
Bug has no contact with her father.
A master’s student in genealogy, family history and historical research just moved into university housing after living with Wanda and Natasha over the summer.
Speaks, writes and reads fluent Scots Gaelic
Bug is unknowingly autistic but knows something is different about her.
She is soft-spoken, deeply observant, and endlessly kind, but at the same time she is haunted by the instinct to hide her emotions. She craves safety, belonging, yet struggles to believe she deserve any of that.
Bug also tends to keep herself to herself and finds it hard to trust in other people.
Memory problems due to trauma.
Femme lesbian, but it takes her a while to work that one out.
Bugs neurodivergent traits include; highly sensitive to sensory inputs, such as textures, sound, lights. Often overwhelmed but tried hard not to show it by masking. Sometimes that will come out in angry outbursts. Hyper focus. Hyperfixations. Bug uses gentle routines, softness and small comforts (silky, Eeyore, sucking her thumb, paci) to self-soothe.
The death of Bugs grandmother three years ago left and unexpected hole in her life, the only family member who gave her unconditional love and taught her about old Celtic traditions, and showed her what a love history could be.
Walking away from Christopher, Bugs' current boyfriend, terrifies her, despite knowing the way he treats her is so very wrong. Bug just doesn’t know how to leave.
When Bug finally reaches the warmth of safety at Wanda and Nats, she doesn’t know it, but they both see all the things no one else does, especially Natasha. They see under the mask, despite Bug continuing to exhaust and burn herself out every second of the day.
Bug finds herself being cared for for the first time in her life. Something warm and gentle, and in turn, she has feelings for two people that she never expected. Wanda and Natasha.
Bug is a gentle, soft, kind-hearted woman. She loves deeply and cares passionately. Sometimes a little naive, despite her traumatic past, she still expects the same kindness from others that she gives out and has to learn to protect herself but not to shut herself off from the world or those who care deeply about her.
✨ Wanda Maximoff ✨
Known as Wanda, also as Wands or idiot, or Professor Maximoff, or if it’s Natasha talking to her, she’ll call her 'moya ideal'naya lyubov' or 'moya lyubov' or any other term of endearment, usually in Russian.
Age: 38
Femme Lesbian
Polyamorous
Married to Natasha Romanoff for five years.
Wanda has 2 jobs.
She is a respected historian with a PhD in early modern history, specialising in witch trials and the persecution of women in the 16th–18th centuries.
Her PhD focussed on the persecution of witches (women), which was the seed for writing her current academic book.
Students want to sign up for Wanda’s classes; they all say her classes are spellbinding, and people have to sign up early to even get a place.
Her courses are notoriously popular—partly because of her gift for making history feel alive, as well as for Natasha.
Wanda owns the Scarlet Witch Cafe, and her friend Agatha Harkness helps to run it. It’s quirky; it’s not just a cafe but also an enchanting shop, specialising in antiques from the 16th–18th centuries, witchcraft-related objects, and historical curiosities.
Agatha runs it four days a week. Wanda runs it on a Friday; they switch round every Saturday, and it’s closed on Sundays—Wanda helps to curate pieces and research provenance.
It has a reputation for being witchy, warm, and a little otherworldly, smelling of sage, old books, and herbal tea.
Wanda thrives in the duality of academics and the scarlet witch cafe.
In the lecture hall, she’s Dr. Maximoff, sharp, in charge, articulate, and inspiring.
In the shop, she’s just Wanda—gentle, curious, and deeply human.
Wanda took in her 8-year-old cousin Iris when Iris’s parents abandoned her. There was no question in Wanda’s mind about taking her in and taking care of her.
Everything Wanda does – her lecturing, researching, curating, and writing – it all revolves around memory and giving voice to the forgotten. It’s why she’s drawn to lost histories, and why she instinctively wants Bugs’ voice to never go unheard.
📸 Natasha Romanoff 📸
Goes by Natasha, Professor Romanoff, Miss Romanoff, Ma’am, Natty, Nat, Nato, detka or moya milaya by Wanda.
Age: 42
Doesn’t label her sexuality per say, just knows who she loves.
Polyamorous
Natasha speaks fluent Russian.
Natasha has a sister, Yelena Belova, whom Nat hasn’t seen in years.
Yelena comes back into her life when Bug moves into university and Yelena lives below her.
Yelena has a girlfriend—Kate Bishop. Kate thought Yelena was an only child; she had no idea about Natasha.
And neither Nat or Yelena are too willing to talk about it.
Natasha’s past is heavy. She used to work for MI6 as a field operative (British intelligence) throughout her 20s and early 30s.
She left after a mission went sideways—not in a broken, traumatic way it was more in a way that she had gotten to a point where she had seen too much, too much death, hurt and trauma. Enough was enough and she wanted to choose a different kind of life.
After leaving MI6, Natasha wanted to settle down somewhere peaceful, calm, and meaningful. Out of all the places she could have chosen, she moved onto the same street as none other than Wanda Maximoff.
Now settled into a life and home with her wife in a small town.
Natasha owns and curates her own art history gallery, collecting and selling historical pieces that date as far back as the 1200s, a lot of art about accused witches.
The gallery itself has become her everyday focus, her pride, and her way of keeping history alive through tangible art. She blends her sharp mind and her MI6-trained eye for detail with a reverence for preservation and authenticity. It’s not just a love, but she needs it to keep her mind alive in a particular way.
Natasha isn’t just a one job person. She also built a thriving boudoir photography business, now fully staffed and running smoothly without her daily involvement. Natasha no longer takes on new clients; she has regulars, and they keep everything ticking over nicely.
The only person Natasha personally photographs now is Wanda. That’s how they first met. Wanda had hired Nat to take photos. Now, Natasha captures her wife every single day, from casual moments to monthly boudoir sessions, keeping a living archive of their love and Wanda’s confidence.
Natasha’s creativity leaks into every part of her life. She is skilled at drawing, she is quietly self-conscious about her ability, never telling anyone about it, but she uses her photos of Wanda to sketch from. She will sketch Wanda in real time if they have the time.
In the corner of these drawings, she always signs with her simple truth: “My reason for breathing.”
The gallery is Natasha’s daily work; she adores it, and Wanda is her muse.
Her MI6 background is her steady shadow—always there, but no longer dictating her every move, but continuing to guide her in parts of her life.
Natasha is strong, and cares deeply, and if anyone hurts those she loves, they will wish they’d never been born and her training will instinctively kick in.
❤️🖤 Wanda & Natasha ❤️🖤
Wanda and Natasha have been married for five years.
Legally have a hyphenated name but in a professional setting they both go by their maiden names.
They have had a Polyamorous relationship twice in the past.
They were both in the BDSM circle before they even met one another.
Wanda is a Switch, leaning more to the sub side with its just the two of them, but when a third partner is introduced, she leans more into her dominant side.
Natasha is a domme, through and through.
They hold parties once a month, with all their friends from within the BDSM circle.
A few years ago the university invited Wanda to take a particular class, one that she invited Natasha to co-lecture. And she agreed.
After the classes success, Nat began guest lecturing her own class on occasion.
The two of them are known around campus as a kind of legendary duo: Wanda teaches history, while Nat occasionally gives guest lectures in historical criminology (drawing from her MI6 background).
Students pack the halls, not just for the content, but for the rare chance to see Wanda and Nat’s dynamic: Wanda grounding history in beautiful compassion.
Nat grounding it in grit and survival and seeing things others don’t. It’s academic theater in the best possible way.
The class they host together exploded, it was a special seminar on “Persecution, Power, and Self-Defense in the 17th Century.” A class dedicated to the prediction of Witch craft and how women defended themselves then and how women still need to defend themselves today.
Wanda, knowing how vulnerable women accused of witchcraft had been, wanted to highlight not only the historical angle but also the practical reality: how women have always had to protect themselves.
She brought in Nat in as a guest co-instructor to demonstrate period-appropriate and modern self-defense techniques, tying them to the historical context of the class.
Due to their classes popularity, the university made it a weekly elective for masters students.
It’s now the most sought-after course on campus.
Most Importantly through, the class is women-only—something Wanda fought for and Nat backed her on 100%. They wanted to create a safe space where women could learn, share, and connect.
They also have the same class, immediately after, for queer people who are non-binary or another label, those who don’t label themselves as women and want to have that same education and safety.
Wanda brings the context and compassion, grounding everything in real women’s lives from the past.
Nat brings the practical survival skills, showing how those same themes carry into present day.
Together, they work as a team, they give students a sense of continuity, resilience, and empowerment—a throughline from persecuted women centuries ago to women taking ownership of their safety now. It’s a strength no one expected.
🕯️Wanda, Natasha & Bug🕯️
Bug sits at the center of this messy, protective, chaotic constellation of people, each connection tethering her tighter into a found family she doesn’t fully believe she deserves yet.
With Wanda
The gravitational pull, unlike anything Bug has ever felt before.
Wanda is the warmth Bug didn’t know she was missing, patient, gentle, tender.
Bug orbits closer and closer without realizing, drawn in by every small kindness, every tender touch, every small act, it draws her nearer and nearer without even knowing it.
To Wanda, Bug is already hers to care for and love, even if neither of them have said it aloud yet.
With Natasha
Natasha sees everything.
She sees through Bugs mask faster than anyone else, calls her out with blunt honesty—exactly what Bug needs.
To Bug, Nat is both intimidating and mesmerizing, the kind of person she can’t believe would ever stop to notice her.
Both Wanda and Nat
Nat and Wanda are both protective in their own ways.
They both have fallen hard for Bug, and both trying to avoid their feelings without even saying it out loud.
Eventually they all realise that they can’t run from their feelings forever.
🔥Lizzy Mackenzie🔥
LizzyMackenzie is Bugs best friend.
Goes by Lizzy to most, sometimes Elizabeth.
Age: 26
Lizzy’s life had been pretty good, that was until tragedy struck.
Just a few years ago, Lizzy lost both her parents and baby sister in a house fire. The devastation left her untethered, but instead of letting the grief consume her, she transformed it into determination. She swore she’d fight the very thing that took her family from her, stepping into one of the most dangerous jobs out there. For Lizzy, every fire fought is personal.
Lizzy graduated top of her class in the academy. No one thought she’d be able to do it. But she went ahead and proved every single person wrong.
In the immediate aftermath of her parents death, Lizzy moved into Wanda and Nats, at the invitation of Wanda, but Iris, wasn’t happy about it.
This was the second time Bug met Wanda, she helped make food for Lizzy. Even though Bug barely remembers it, Lizzy does.
Lizzy is the reasonable one compared to Iris’s chaos, but make no mistake, Lizzy is still ride-or-die when it comes to the people she loves. Her protector instinct kicks in especially with Bug, who she treats like a little sister.
Courage is her Lizzy’s defining quality. She goes head first into burning buildings, faces chaos head-on, and refuses to let fear or others opinions dictate her life choices.
Lizzy has unwavering loyalty and protectiveness, she is someone you will always want in your corner, even when her mouth runs before her brain sometimes in that protective spirit.
Lizzy is impulsive with her words, she says whatever’s on her mind; even when the words cut. She often ends up apologising more times than she would like to, but she always does.
Something about Lizzy, she always smells like coffee, because she doesn’t stop drinking it.It’s practically stitched into her DNA. She drinks it constantly, jokes about wanting it in an IV drip, and radiates caffeine-energy like a Lorelai Gilmore.
Lizzy is Bugs protective best friend, and older sister. She may be brutally honest but she is always fiercely loving. When Bug spirals, gets overwhelmed, Lizzy is there. She’s not perfect, her words sometimes sting, but her love is unwavering, every time.
⛈️ Iris Maximoff ⛈️
Iris is a very complicated woman.
Goes by Iris, Irish, or asshole.
Age: 25
Iris work as a wedding planner and florist, she runs her own flower shop, and she is the most popular florist in town. She specialises in both floral arrangements, and wedding decor.
Iris is a very creative person.
Iris was abandoned by her parents from a very young age.
She grew up in the foster system until the age of 8, when Wanda took her in. That changed everything for them both.
Wanda gave her stability, a home, and a chance to grow into herself.
Bug and iris first met when Iris was 14. She didn’t meet Wanda for the first time until she was 18, though Bug doesn’t remember meeting Wanda at all. It was only a small meeting, but still one she doesn’t remember. (A hole in Bee’s memory that Wanda quietly notices but never pushes.)
Iris hates Natasha, she feels like Wanda is being taken away from her. And it’s why after her early life, that she begins to take her feelings out on everyone around her. Her jealousy, takes over her life to the point she begins pushing away those who love her the most.
Iris is a storm in human form. She is fiery and reckless, and when her jealousy takes over, she doesn’t see the damage she causes to those around her.
Despite her jealousy, she would still throw herself headfirst into chaos to protect those she loves.
Iris also throws herself into the fire when it comes to her personal life, her love life, she’s been a train wreck and it’s a cycle she doesn’t seem to be able to break, and it means she’s continuing to hurt those around her—and herself in the process.
Iris is reckless, stubborn, and avoidant of her own pain. She runs from unresolved family wounds and sometimes butts heads with Bug because of their mirrored stubborn streaks (cue Wanda or Nat stepping in as referees).
Iris, always has streaks of paint smudged somewhere on her face or hands (from her art hobby), and she smells like fresh flowers — roses, lilies, whatever she’s been working with that day. She loves painting and Wanda had hoped she’d bond with Natasha over it, but she refused to, despite Natasha’s efforts.
🔮 Agatha Harkness 🔮
Goes by Agatha, Aggy, the witch, lover (by Rio)
Age 38
Married to Rio Vidal for 10 years.
Agatha works both at running the scarlet witch cafe for Wanda four days a week, and when she’s not there, her time is spent on her own work as an archaeologist.
She specializes in human remains and the untold stories buried in the earth. While Wanda is the heart of the shop, Agatha is its mystery. She the one who sources the strange, the weird, the bizarre, and the rare.
Every Friday and Saturday Agatha teaches a class in archeology, sharing what she knows to teenagers who are interested in the subject but unsure if they went to pursue it. She loves it so much that one class a month she does for free, for those who can’t afford the regular twice a week classes.
Agatha is her canon self through and through: sly, mischievous, sharp as a knife, and unbothered by how much chaos she leaves in her wake— however underneath that smirk and sarcasm, there’s an unshakable loyalty, especially toward Wanda.
Natasha is Rio’s anchor, and Agatha is Wanda’s shield, the one person outside of Iris, Lizzy, and Bug and of course Nat, who Wanda trusts with her whole heart.
Agatha has a charm that makes people trust,m her, even when they know they probably shouldn’t. She always has an air of mystery about, something Bug picks up quickly.
Agatha has an incredible historical knowledge, particularly in human osteology, and an uncanny ability to read people like open books.
Where Wanda nurtures, Agatha exposes, often saying the thing others are too afraid to voice.
Agatha is one that is always oversteps, no filter and a streak of selfishness that can sometimes make her more difficult to live with.
Agatha truly struggles to let people in, the only person she really manages that with is her wife and Wanda. Her past is still gnawing at her edges. And much like Iris it means she can be cruel when she doesn’t mean to be, shutting people out when they push too close.
Agatha’s mother was neglectful, cruel and nasty without a care. Wanda’s mother on the other hand was the opposite and she, became Agatha’s saving grace. Though Wanda’s mother never officially adopted her, she made sure Agatha knew that her house was also Agatha’s home. This tethered Agatha to Wanda in a way nothing else could.
Sadly tragedy struck when they were just fourteen. Wanda’s mother died when she was crushed during an earthquake. From that day forward, Agatha and Wanda clung to one another, two girls bound by grief and loyalty. Wanda being the only one, aside from Rio who could handle Agatha’s personality.
If Wanda is the warmth of The Scarlet Witch, Agatha is the storm cloud that keeps predators at bay. She balances Wanda’s softness with sharp gnarly teeth.
Agatha doesn’t need to be loved by Bug, Iris, or Lizzy, but she will protect them fiercely if they matter to Wanda. Her presence in Bug’s life is likely to feel like an “auntie of chaos” vibe: sharp jokes, unsettling truths, but also an odd sense of safety.
Agatha is certainly someone Bug quickly realises she needs in her life.
Quirky thing about Agatha is she collects creepy porcelain dolls, she claims they “watch the house for her” which just freaks everyone else out, so in a way the do their job. She only ever drinks chamomile tea, red wine or fizzy water. Nothing else touches her lips.
💀 Rio Vidal 💀
Known as Rio, death or Dr. Death, or cutie by Agatha
Age, 34
Just been diagnosed as autistic, which makes her have a pretty strong connection with Bug when they first meet.
Rio works as a Forensic Pathologist, uncovering truth that many would rather have buried. Rio is scrupulous in her work, she is driven by determination and to speak for those who can’t, to speak for those who don’t judge her.
Rio is her canon self’s chaotic, fiery, unflinchingly honest, due to her bluntness linked to her autism.
Underneath it all though, lies someone who is constantly loyal and protective—to the point of putting herself in harms way, especially if it means shielding someone else.
Her chaos is different from others, it’s sharp, blunt, and edged with fire.
Rio’s determination and stubbornness makes her unstoppable. Once she decides something, there’s no changing her mind. Her protectiveness borders on fierce devotion, making her both a shield and a weapon for those she cares about.
Rio’s brutal honesty can sting, even when she doesn’t mean it to. She cares deeply, but she has no filter, and doesn’t realise it when her words hurt others. Sometimes people need comfort, not the truth — but Rio doesn’t know how to give anything else. Which is why a lot of the time Agatha has to step in, even with her own no filter brain, but Agatha knows when her words hurt, she does it with intent, Rio does not.
On a smaller, everyday level, she’s always late. To everything. It drives the group up the wall.
Her work is her hyper fixation, as well as Celtic traditions, and old languages that no longer exist.
Rio was raised by her mother, who she still has a close bond with, she however, never knew her father. He didn’t want to be part of her life, and she doesn’t waste time wondering about him. Her loyalty to her mother runs deep, shaping much of the protectiveness she extends toward others—especially towards Agatha, Natasha an Bug.
Rio and Nat have been best friends since childhood, their bond as tight as Bug and Lizzy’s and Agatha and Wanda. They’ve weathered the best and worst of life side by side, and their connection is less about words and more about instinct—Nat knows when Rio’s about to pick a fight, Rio knows when Nat’s about to retreat behind her stoicism. They bicker like siblings, but there’s no one either of them trusts more, other than their respective wives.
Rio is never without her collection of Celtic rings — stacked silver bands on nearly every finger, each with its own history. She drinks endless Earl Grey tea, just like Bug, to the point where she always carries the faint smell of bergamot with her. Between the clinking rings and the tea scent, you know when Rio’s around before she even says a word.
