Quick Analysis of Moodboards
Just looking back quickly at the moodboards I’ve thrown together so far, and wondering how to approach the pixel art moodboard.
The big things about Rayman seem to be its sheer exaggeration on everything, almost farcical, yet still appears just as appealing and quirky enough. Colours are bright, powerful and the creatures are meant to be threatening but have an almost harmless appeal to them.
The bugs moodboard seemed to ring a lot of the same bells, for me. Exaggerated, colourful, harmless and just a bit ridiculous in many cases.
The good news about this is that pixel art embodies many of those same qualities. Pixel art is typically pushing the ridiculous, exaggerated atmosphere, but since it leaves a lot to the imagination, it can get away without ever just appearing totally wrong, it can still feel right.
Colours being an important aspect works too, colours being as bold and prominent as they are in pixel art.
So, I’m away to get boards for pixel art that can meet this kind of criteria and begin thinking about how to create my dancing spider.
