Winged temple guardian with gray skin and lizard tail/limbs? 👀👀👀 Does this lad have a story?

Have I not talked about him before? I’m sure I have. Anyway, I can’t even remember his name. I must have been about 9 when I came up with him. As far as I remember, the details were (loosely) thus:

His mother was cursed for nebulous reasons and took shelter in the temple of a goddess, where she gave birth to her “monstrous” son. He had bat’s wings, grey skin, birdlike legs, black clawed hands, and a lizard’s tail.

He became the temple guardian, cleaning it and performing rites for the goddess until one day a young woman got into distress in the woods, chased by bandits during a thunderstorm. All terribly melodramatic. Her horse bolted and she fell, and the bandits were just closing in when the guardian appeared, illuminated with wings spread and a terrible roar during a flash of lightning (think Disney’s Fantasia Chernabog for inspiration), and scared them off. He tenderly carried the young woman into the temple, laid her in his humble bed, and begged the goddess to heal her.

He cares for her through her thunderstorm-induced fever, though when she starts getting better, he retreats into the shadows and secret passages of the temple because he is a “monster” and doesn’t want to scare her. She has memories of tender hands and a kind voice, and says he can’t be a monster.

Eventually he showed himself to her, and, surprise, she wasn’t horrified…!!! bet you didn’t see that coming, huh?

Bandits return, capture the guardian as he throws himself in front of a spear which goes through his shoulder, protecting the young woman. She rescues him right back, and the two return to the temple for a happy ever after, untroubled by bandits or hunters….

Or thereabouts.
