For February, I'll be doing "Build Doctor"! If you've had problems with your character feeling underwhelming and not fun to play, maybe I can help!
I've created a form that you can fill out, and I will be taking submissions from this to look over and give advice on a few builds per week for the whole month of February! I'd love to help you have more fun at your table!
Please fill out the below google form:
For February, 2024, I'll be helping people with their Pathfinder2e Builds. If your build seems to be underperforming, or if you just aren't

how do you get better at building? <3
hey anon! thanks for the ask!
while i don't think i'm an expert builder, here are some of my tips to try and get better at building!
watch some speed builds!
check out some build tutorial! (here's the link to mine; also check out @avocadawn, their tutorials are great as well!!)
check out houseplans/floorplans on pinterest and google!
i know this isn't entirely helpful, but these are ways i've learned to get better at building and draw some inspiration!!
Hi, your builds are amazing! Do you have any tips on improving my own building skills, I’ve tried for years but I’m still not very good especially landscaping :(
aww anon I feel you on the landscaping! that is tough, I still haven’t quite got the hang of terraforming yet but I have definetly been trying to actively improve my building lately so maybe help with advice for that!
have references available
I always try to have an idea in mind of what kind of architecture style I am going for, references help a tonne with that! for my farmhouse I was talking with my good friend junidag about houses in Sweden so I was using that for inspiration:
consider materials
before I start building I always decide on what materials my house will be made of, is it wood or stone? what kind of visiual impact will these materials have on the overall feel of my house? do I want it to feel old or new? etc. at this point as well I will pick a colour scheme, front door, and window style for my house.
structure
many houses in my gameplay start from a very small house that I will wish to expand at some point like you can see the original house became the entrance for the main house! sometimes tho when you’re building from scratch u will want to think about a) what kinds of rooms you want and b) the overall shape of the house err I can make some diagrams for that
my houses are usually 2 rectanges crossed over one another but if you’re building a larger mansion style home it’s a good idea to make it thinner on the edges like a croissant but thats a big oversimplification cuz u probably want more than 3 rooms GSGSGS:
ROOF
roofs are scary for a lot of people I feel but I was told that houses normally have a large main roof, with then smaller roofs coming off of it, and as long as you follow that pattern it usually works out, I try to think how the roof will look before I finish the house floorplan because I don’t wanna struggle placing the roof later!
this is a very basic tutorial but I hope that it helps a lil 👉👈
I'm trying to work on a base build and here what I have so far
Thoughts??
Am I going crazy?!!
As you can see from the photos above, I’ve had no issues in the past making stairs with a landing. (the second photo isn’t a great angle, but you can kind of tell where the stairs start next to the bust, then hit the landing and you would turn right to carry on up the remainder of the stairs.)
The first photo is in a house with no foundation, the second is in a house with a foundation. In both cases to create the staircase with a landing and then a switchback or turn and then continued stairs, there were no tricks or anything weird I had to do. I just placed the stage and then placed the modular stairs. Easy peasy.
But for some reason now, every time I try to do this when I’m building a house it WON’T work. I’ve tried so many configurations of walls, stages, stairs, flooring and no flooring on the upper floor when placing the stairs, move objects on and off, etc. It lets me place the first set of stairs from the ground floor up to the stage, but it won’t let me place the second set from the upper floor to the stage.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on? Am I missing something really obvious here that for some reason I wasn’t missing before? Why could I do it before with absolutely no issue, and now it just won’t work at all?
