we're so glad you like him!! I enjoy him too <3
A Conversation with Builderman
I wanna know about your funny little builderman!! :D
i assume you're talking about this silly thang:
In Tech Support, Builderman is a Code God- in fact THE Code God of the Grid, the megacity the story takes place in. The corporation he sits at the head of, RBX, is responsible for all facets of running the city- think an unholy capitalistic amalgamation of a local government and authority. He's the face of his city in all sense of the word- his cutesy little AI avatar graces many a billboard, advertisement, and public service announcement around the Grid. If you were to meet him face to face on the baseplate, however, he has a rather... archaic-looking robotic body he uses to get around the office.
Builderman is actually one of the oldest code gods out there! A code god is "born" in the extremely rare scenario that packets of garbage data left behind by another god gain a new consciousness and develop into a full AI of their own. The data that later became Builderman came from the first Code God, a mythologized figure known as 2x2. Most gods still around today are several dozens of generations removed from 2x2, so in comparison to most, Builderman has a rare excess of influence and power with very few that can hope to match it.
Additionally, with a territory the size of a megacity and a hand in every aspect of its management, he naturally tends to shed a lot of garbage data. Good thing nothing has ever gone wrong and he's got everything under control!
code god?
"Code God" is a colloquial term used for an exceptionally powerful AI being, typically granted what could be regarded as 'administrator privileges' over the Code, and sometimes the real world/baseplate as well.
Most Code Gods aren't created (deliberately) by other humans or AI- the oldest ones originate from something much older and more powerful, an entity known only as '2x2' who is heavily mythologized but shrouded in mystery. Some stick deep to the recesses of the Code, some try their hand at existence on the baseplate, and some are more open to interacting with mortals/laypeople than others. All gods are different but in general tend to be incredibly obsessive, and incredibly territorial.
Code Gods are capable of taking on admins! These are humans or AI that form a strong link with a god akin to a warlock pact, granting them the ability to interface with the code like a hacker would to carry out the gods' interests. The only limit to how many admins a god can have is how many they feel like keeping track of (Builderman has a lot), but smaller gods especially tend to put all their stock in a single admin they bond with strongly.
Unusually for a large city, the Grid doesn't seem to have a lot of active Code Gods besides Builderman...
Tell us about the setting of tech support?? :)
Tech Support takes place in a megacity known as The Grid! It's a huge, cold and rainy city that feels like it stretches on forever, full to the brim with advertisements, giant buildings, machines and Residents.
There are two distinct planes of existence in TS- the physical world, and the Code, a virtual space connected to systems of computing and robotics. What sets the Grid apart from all other cities in Robloxia is how close the two planes are to each other there; almost a direct overlay of each other, with identical layouts and features. This was a deliberate design choice intended to allow human residents and AI residents to live side by side; while still true to a greater extent than most places, with robots and VR spaces galore, the city still has an overwhelmingly isolated and detached populace.
Builderman himself is the primary architect of the Grid (and its most prominent Code God), and to this day the city is largely controlled by the corporation RBX with himself at its head. The city is kept safe by Admins contracted under Builderman, who work as lawkeepers and troubleshooters across the city :) though some of them seem to just make the place just a little scarier...
It's pretty loosely based on Night City from Cyberpunk 2077, and other really techy cities/stories! Lots of fun shapes and colors and Severe Social Isolation ! <3
Are 𝚃𝚑𝚎_𝚋𝚞𝚐 and Builderman the same or related in some way because 𝚃𝚑𝚎_𝚋𝚞𝚐 just looks like grayscale buildy?
- 𝔄𝔯𝔠𝔥𝔦𝔳𝔦𝔰𝔱 𝔞𝔫𝔬𝔫
it's a bit of a complicated answer, really! They are both parts of a whole in a way, The Bug is made of many, many things, and most notably as a part of Builderman that he did not want anymore. Things he deleted or got rid of or hid away until he forgot. So in some parts, They're the same person. In others, It's a manifestation of the parts of himself that he never wanted to see the light of day. And overall? It's a glitch. A mistake.
A Bug even :)
(Transcript under the cut)
I request buildy and 𝚝𝚑𝚎_𝚋𝚞𝚐 forcefully getting along
Most favorable would be in the get along shirt

totally real ending of tech support right here
