Be ready to get it and let's make some Black History. BUILD! As a Political Science Major and student athlete at the University of Iowa, I began organizing and working to empower black youth. The vast majority of those children had come to Iowa City due to escalating gentrification in nearby Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from the University of Iowa with honors, I returned to my home state of Florida after receiving a merit scholarship to attend Florida Coastal School of Law. While at Florida Coastal I was consumed with studying every aspect of the US criminal justice/mass incarceration system AND ways to protect black youth from that sick system. It was during that time that I continued planning and organizing The Building Powerful Minds Youth Empowerment Program (BPM). After graduating from law school with honors, passing the Florida Bar and establishing my own criminal defense practice, I got to work taking the BPM vision to a higher level. Through faith in Christ, passion and work ethic our organization now reaches 100's of youth and adults in multiple states and cities. The BPM approach to youth empowerment and community organization is unique, ground breaking and dynamic. No other organization in America has developed a formula that equips our youth with real knowledge of self (Afrikan History), economic/entrepreneurship training, survival skills/self defense training and all of the core principles of Black Manhood. After laboring in this field for the past 10 years, I've decided to lay out The Blueprint For Black Youth Empowerment. In this book I will provide the background knowledge and research that went into the BPM approach as well as each step we have taken in developing this organization. The book will allow the reader to gain the knowledge, skills and insight needed to galvanize and empower our youth and communities overall.
