Humming a sweet tune, lips pressed together to spread your lipstick across your lips, suitcase held in your hands whilst you counted the amount of people that passed by like sheep. You couldn’t help but step ne foot out of the line, leaning to the side and stretching your head out to catch just a tiny glimpse of the plane. It wasn’t your first time anymore, you couldn’t help but feel the rush of adrenaline and blood rushing underneath your skin, nerves making your legs slightly wobble at the thought of being so high in the air on a flying piece of metal 30,000 feet above the air. Taking a deep breath in, your cheeks puffed up as you exhaled, the flushed pink hue all over the fat.
It felt like forever until it was your turn, watching a few old geezers be total assholes just because they’re sitting hallways across the plane from each other. Like It was the attendants fault that they chose the cheaper route and didnt pick their seats. Spending so much time sucked up in the drama abused you to not even realize that you were next, just looking at the attendant with a big childish smile all over your face.
“Ma’am? Do you have your ticket?” The woman asked with a raised eyebrow, a weirded out look on her face, eyebrows risen high before your pretty litttle world of drama was crushed. Smile immediately washing away like a flower down the river. Embarrassment and shame flushed those rosy cheeks that were once puffy and full of life.
“O-Oh yes! I-Im so sorry you know—Just like caught up in all the chatter and—“ Dugging through your junk filled bag, papers overflowing from the top as you yelped from the mess of papers that had landed onto the floor from your purse. Crumbling and creasing the paper in between your hands, luckily finding your passport with your plane ticket right in the middle, handing it to the woman with a witty expression plastered all over your face.
“Ah! You’ve been selected for a surprise upgrade to first class! Enjoy your flight ma’am.” What was once a mumbling bunch of words was now quiet and still. Eyes wide, twinkling like the biggest and brightest star at night. Pausing for just five seconds, not really knowing what to say. A random free upgrade? This was going to be the bests flight ever!
“R-Really..?”
“Mhm! Oooof all the amenities too! I’d take advantage of that if I was you.” With a laugh, the attendant handed you the ticket, gently patting your shoulder and sending you off with a smile.e Different from the first weirder out look she gave you. It was as if your knees were about to buckle whilst walking through that long passenger boarding bridge to the entrance of the plane. Being the last one to walk through, greeted by beautiful flight attendants in those tight little professional uniforms. You handed one of the nicer younger looking ladies your ticket, hands shaky and almost reluctant to give your ticket up. The sweet woman even led you too your seat and stuffed your carry-on in the overhead bin! Oh wow, premium service indeed!
“I’m starting to think you’re obsessed with me. Following me to my seat?”
That familiar voice from the gated lounge rung out, leaning back in those fancy first class seats, smirk on that stupid wanna-be-model face of his. Window that separated the two luxurious seats down, a clear sign of how little relaxation you’d get on this flight.
“I-I hope turbulence takes us both out,” you mumbled, cheeks burning as you stood there like a total idiot just staring at him. Taking hesitant steps forwards, shoulders slightly tense as you sat down. The words came out more like a squeak than an insult.
He chuckled, low and smooth. “You don’t mean that.”
You didn’t. But you weren’t about to tell him that. Not when your heart was doing jumping jacks just from sitting this close to him.
You tucked your legs slightly to the side, smoothing your skirt and trying to ignore the way those daring blue eyes bore into your soul. Your hands nervously clutched the seatbelt, and you glanced around the cabin like a little lost duck, eyes wide and sparkly. “I-I didn’t even know people got upgraded for free like this,” you said, more to yourself than him. “I thought it was just like…a rumor, just in the movies, or something.”
He watched you, amused, resting his chin in his palm. “Maybe you’re just lucky. What’s your name anyway, if you don’t mind me asking darling?
You looked at him then, lips pressed into a thoughtful pout. “Y/N. And no, I-I’m very much not lucky at all.” Continuing whilst leaning back against the plush cushioning of the seat. “I’m more of a trip-on-flat-surfaces kind of girl. Once I dropped an entire tray of iced coffee at work because someone smiled at me.”
His laugh escaped before he could stop it. “Cute name. I’m Leon.” He finally answered, holding out his hand expecting a handshake like it was some sort of business deal. Of course, you couldn’t leave him hanging, so your tiny little soft hand gently shook his—engulfed by his palm, rough padding of his fingers against yours. “Dangerous weapon, smiles.”
You giggled too, brushing your hair behind your ear shyly. “Exactly. Smiles should be illegal. Especially yours. It’s kind of… threatening. Scary.”
His brows lifted, clearly enjoying himself now. “You think my smile is threatening?” Leon pointed to himself.
You nodded quickly, avoiding his eyes, twiddling with your thumbs. “Mmhm. Feels like I’m about to sign my soul away or something.”
A silence stretched for a second — a warm one. He leaned back slightly, watching you with a new softness in his gaze.
“I’ll take that as a compliment,” he said.
You buried your face in your hands. “It wasn’t supposed to be!”
“But it was,” he teased. “You just didn’t mean to say it out loud.”
You let out a helpless little whimper, trying not to melt into your seat. “You’re not supposed to be nice and annoying. It’s unfair. I-It’s not how this game works!”
Just then, the captain’s voice crackled over the speakers, announcing takeoff. You tensed slightly, gripping the armrest with both hands. Not because you were terrified of flying, exactly — but something about that moment right before takeoff always made you feel like you were about to be launched into a new life.
He noticed your white-knuckled grip.
“Nervous flyer?”
You offered him a sheepish look. “Not nervous. Just…respectfully terrified.”
Without a word, he gently nudged his hand through the privacy window, letting his fingers rest just beside yours. Close enough to notice. Not close enough to scare you.
“I got you,” he said, voice lower now. “It’s just a plane. But if it helps, you can think of me as your emotional support seatmate.”
You blinked, lips parting slightly in surprise.
Then — despite yourself — you smiled.
It was small. Soft. But real.
And suddenly, flying 30,000 feet above the ground didn’t seem quite so scary anymore. Feet kicking at lift off, and unfamiliar yet warm fingers were caressing your knuckles.
Yay I stayed true to my words! <3 hope you all enjoy this part 2! Not sure if this is like…Series or something now, help! I really wanna finish “old dogs and new dolls” first before starting anything big again! Unless you all prefer this over “old dogs and new dolls”! Anyways, I love all of you and stay safe everyone! Drink your water, eat a nice yummy meal, and take care of yourself. And once again, if anything is wrong, bad, or if I made a mistake please let me know! Thank you all! 💝
