You cannot convince me that drow don't have predatory beauty standards specifically for men.
So I've been working on my own little project of putting together a Cards against the Forgotten Realms deck, with a focus on lore and (bc I know them the best) the Baldur’s Gate games over the typical stereotypes (like the horny bard trope) (which can be fun and all but there are so much lore to dig into). Here are some highlights.
I still have. So many cards to make. Bc I am counting in expansions. And so I am taking suggestions for cards (both White/Response and Black/Prompt).
Finished Codemnation. It was really, really fun. And. Vhaeraun. Enough said. Actually no, afterhand commentary go-
Love me some Place Facts. Mantol-Derith was an interesting little spot.
Nimor is GREAT at this. Love his take on risk-taking. Go go go you funky little Vhaeraunite-
*making small frustrated sounds* YOU ABANDONED THOSE LANDS let the poor drow wanting to make a home for themself be! Your city is a fiend-infested ruin with a beholder squatting in it! You're not using the land!! How is it your forest when you LEFT--
"We will see if the Masked Lord favors us or not" sure is a phrase I like.
Loving the energy the Vhaeraunites are bringing. All of them are wonderful. (Not pictured; the Lolthites assumption that interracting with House Jaelre would work like interracting with any Lolthite house, only to be immediately proven wrong)
Also Jezz! The Lame!!
Tzirik: Are you in the market for a deity that actually cares for you? May I interest you in Vhaeraun?
I would've been happy if most of the remaining book was just Tzirik talking at length on the virtues of Vhaeraun, not gonna lie. I wanna hear about his virtues, actually. Please discourse at length at me about them.
VHAERAUN APPEARS and stays appeard for several chapters (such a treat after the very brief cameo in Daughter of the Drow). I love this guy. I support him in his quest to slay Lolth.
Also love him protecting his little priest the whole time he was there as well (before he got distracted by that brawl).
Now I have two books between me and the next Vhaeraun appearance. So, time to devour more books.
Shakti is in the right. I am on her side. And I have just finished reading Daughter of the Drow.
Love the characters. Like. I love Liriel (though not in the same way as the narrative - girl is messy and privileged and I'm here for it). I adore Shakti. She is such a fun character and should have a writer that loves her!
But boy oh boy is Shakti easy to root for. Liriel treats her really bad from the beginning (it is bullying more than pranks as Shakti is NOT having fun and I wouldn't be so mad about it if the narrative didn't treat it as harmless pranks an just brusking past it), it's no WONDER Shakti hates her so much. And I MEAN from the very beginning.
And why? Well, honestly, Shakti only acted in the accordance to their culture.
So. Understandable, Shakti. Carry on with your hatred. You deserve it.
Cards against the (Forgotten) Realms
So I talked about making a CaH deck some time ago... Well, I've been working on it non stop and FINALLY finished them - and I am making them playabe through Massive Deck (though unlisted, the codes are, well, here).
Didn't manage to be as thematic with Black Cards as White, but. Oh well.
The final count was...
Me, sitting down to play DAO: I'm just gonna run through the remaining Origins, see how they play out. I'm not gonna get attached.
Me, 6 hours later: I need to find a way to keep all these characters around.
Ok ok let me yap about the one warlock I've made I've actually gotten to play (in part bc I typically fill out whatever role that the group needs which is how I've ended up playing many clerics and druids, or the one time I picked up the character of someone who left a game etc)...
Which is Devi Shatterbird (her name is pronounced like the start of Devious) - tiefling GOO warlock.
Devi is massively apathetic and primarely motivated by her hunger for knowledge. She collects books, wants to build her own library which would then not allow anyone to borrow from it, and has a thing for forbidden knowledge in particular. Her secondary motivation is money (so she can get more books and thus more knowledge). Her tetiary motivation is loyalty to the few she does care for. She is kinda mean, but in a very idgaf way.
Her pact is with a great old one who has her as its primary connection to the world - she talks to it at times, their relationship is rather friendly, and it feeds her thirst for knowledge in exchange for interracting with the world for it. Her deal with it was for knowledge, after finding a ritual in an old tome that could contact it.
Devi does not want to cut off their connection - she is fond of its presence in her life. It doesn't function like people down to its morals, but Devi is its favorite, and Devi doesn't really care about people herself.
At hour 30-something of playing Dragon Age 2 (after having beaten Origins and Awakening), and every time the Hero of Ferelden is mentioned I get all giddy to know my little magic knight is out there in the setting, doing stuff. So happy to import that save file.
