This past weekend I took a risk. I met a boy on tinder, yes tinder. After deciding giving him my number was a good idea, we got into deep conversation about our goals and dreams. We both found that we want to wander, and take photos, and explore. So instead of planning for a dinner together, we planned a trip to a mountain to hike together through snow, mud, and rocks.
I picked him up in the morning. As soon as he entered my car, he leaned over an gently kissed my cheek and thanked me for taking a chance on doing something different. It was quiet at first as we settled into one another. After a few minutes, we were talking about music and culture shifts. Him being from the city, and my recent move here, led me to become beyond engaged in every word that left his lips.
After an hour, we were at the mountainside. We both would suddenly ask to stop to take beautiful landscape photographs. Often, our cameras began to wander onto one another. As we started up the mountain I instantly knew I was in terrible shape for this. Two minutes in an I thought my ass cheeks were genuinely going to fall off my body. Through my complaints he laughed telling me I was funny. Little did he know, I wasn’t joking about wheezing...my lungs were actually on fire. Remind me to never actually be in health danger in front of him, or I’m screwed. As we made it up the mountain, the photos of one another became more and more common. Our bulky cameras became set not onto on the scenery, but on one another.
As we approached the end of our hike, I naturally slipped in mud and slid down the hill on my ass. Those are cheeks that were “falling off” were now covered in enough mud for anyones entire lifetime. He laughed, naturally so, before attempting to help me up. At this point he began to slip, so I flipped over on my stomach peeling myself up off the earth.
We get back to my car and he doesn’t mind that I’m sweaty, covered in mud, and tired. Instead, he leans from the passenger seat to the back seat where I am organizing my muddy boots. He whispers “can I get a kiss yet?”
We have since decided that while kissing and staring at each other is fun, we do not want to lose someone who wants to explore and take photos. We’ve decided that we need a friend like the other, and are content with that.
Yet every night he texts me that he doesn’t know what he did for the universe that he deserves me.
