For cravelouis:
Nickname: Sas (From my actual name, Saskia)
Example of Work: Crash ... I only started writing recently, but I have a lot of plans for different works. This fic was a sort of practice fic for me. I had a skill for creative writing in highschool, but I became incredibly motivated to write midway through last year. Crash turned out a lot better than I thought it would for my first fic. It is purposefully very lacking in drama, etc, because I wanted to get a feel for actually putting my ideas to paper.
I have a second fic that I am working on at the moment (half of it is published on the same account as Crash), where my focus is on getting used to writing chapters and weaving a more complicated plot. It is about half way done and looks like it will hit about 20-25k words. I was under stressful conditions while writing the first few chapters (uncomfortable desk and 35 degree heat (I live in Australia), so I couldn't bear to sit at my computer for more than 15 minutes at a time), so I'm not that happy with them. But, despite the frankly absurd plot line, I'm happy with how I've planned everything out. Which was my aim, I guess.
But, this is all so I can write chaptered fics with complicated plots where the writing really works well. I have a couple fairly ambitious ideas that I know will require witty, mature writing, with a detailed plot and a touch of smut.
There isn't really a space to say why I'd like to beta, so I'll just do that here:
I want to get much more involved in writing. I've beta'd for one person before, but she did not continue writing after a few chapters. I want to get good at beta'ing because that will help me critique my own work. I am sometimes a little busy due to my uni schedule, but I spend a lot of time online. I'm fairly competent when it comes to grammar and spelling, but I'm not perfect. I guess one fallback would be that I'm not at all comfortable writing smut myself (though I do read it often), I just haven't reached that point yet. I don't know how I'd be trying to critique that, I might only be able to pick up typos, etc. I hope to eventually be able to write smut, maybe beta'ing smut will help that.
I agree with all the points you've made in your 'looking a for beta' post. I absolutely despise lying, so you can be sure that I will be honest with you. I will not tell you it's good unless I actually think it's good. In saying that, I'm not going to drag you down or hurl insults at you. I understand that everything you write has a bit of yourself in it. If criticism isn't delivered properly, it can become damaging. I know this first hand.
I absolutely understand that you don't want dialogue changed without discussion. I have used google docs for fic writing, so my betas only had commenting rights. So they could suggest edits, but only I could set it in stone. I really hate seeing typos, so I can assure you I would fix it if I saw it.
I'd never steal ideas, or parts of a fic. I think that's a despicable thing to do, and I honestly have no desire steal other people's ideas. Not including prompts, of course.
Also, Wattpad is ew.
