Burger + Lasagne = Burgagne
Sometimes in life ‘that perfect idea’ just hits you. You never see it coming... but when it does time stops, your brain hits overtime – "can it be true”?
Here at Absolute Burger during one of our daily burger debates it hit us like a train. What if... what if we dared to upgrade our standard burger with runny cheese and ground beef – we looked at each other and uttered the words ‘lasagne’. Could it work? We had to put it to the Absolute Burger test.
Based in the historic city of Exeter we had many choices of decent burgers to use as a foundation for our upgrade however for a takeaway lunch deal there was only one real choice, the mighty tasty HUBBOX – overall winner of the National Burger Awards. HUBBOX’s lunch meal deal at £5 is an absolute steal and puts the high street chains to shame in both price and quality.
The next decision was “what lasagne do we pair with our HUBBOX”? We needed something quick, simple and ready in 10 minutes which left us looking down Queen Street in the direction of M&S. Knowing we would be in safe hands we picked up their luxury £7 lasagne which turned out to be more of a ‘lasagne come pasta bake’.
Back at Absolute Burger headquarters we let chef Mark power up the microwave whilst excitedly unwrapping our beautiful HUBBOX’s. Like all M&S food it looked and smelt impressive and tasted really good for a microwave dish. We didn’t waste much time dropping a healthy sized portion right bang on top of our juicy burger. Damn, it looked good. But how did it taste? Should we have dared to mess with a HUBBOX creation? What had we created – a meal or a monster?
Adding a pretty decent lasagne to an already decent burger was always going to work, the creamy lasagne cheese paired with the ground beef complimented the taste however, with any top burger the taste is all about the balance and we felt that the taste of the burger didn’t come through as much as it could have. This was only an experiment which we proved successful but for version 2.0 we would go down the traditional homemade lasagne route and opt to experiment with varying levels of sauce. This is certainly a burger we would like to see HUBBOX have a go at.
Absolute Burger Verdict for Burgange : 7.5
